Opening for a tenure-track biology Assistant Professor at the University of Washington's Bothell campus, just northeast of Seattle.
After 10 years, I am stepping down as chair of our department and we have an active search going on! Utah is a phenomenal place to live and work and it's been the honor of a lifetime chairing the department founded by Lou Goodman. #MedSky #Neuroskyence Repost!

Scientists, especially Seattle ones! One of my research scientists is heading to her PhD and we're looking to fill her spot, if not replace her. If you know someone looking to do cool and impactful translational research give them this:

URGENT: FlyBase has lost practically all its funding overnight; even user fees are tied up in denied grant funding. π€¬π€―

This incredible community, on whose backs our #Drosophila labs depend, can't be left out to dry.
this is getting ridiculous (in a good way). first it's $15 plasmid sequencing, now it's $25 C. elegans genome sequencing.
time to look through our freezer collection at all the mutants we never followed up...
UAB is a fantastic place: great science, great people, and great trainees! The collaborative vibe spans across multiple departments. Also the food in Birmingham is legit amazing.
My colleague Dan beat me to the punch but I am so thankful that my hometown paper (and others) was willing to share this with the community.
Many in biotech/private sector are boasting about their ways of funding and doing science
But they are staffed with PhDs and postdocs we train in our NIH and NSF funded labs in universities
With university labs lacking funds to train, the private sector will be profoundly harmed
Jeannaβs an amazing instructor, highly recommend this for mental and physical health given *waves vaguely at the increasing chaos everywhere*
1/3 Why does the US lead the world in the number of clinical trials? How come americans are given the unique chance to get the latest treatment and a fighting chance against often incurable diseases?
That's all thanks to research and the support from the NIH!
Extremely disappointed to see HHMI decide to kill their Inclusive Excellence program, including terminating the current IE3 awards to over a hundred institutions effective this year in the middle of a 6-year grant. I was hoping HHMI (and other private funders) would continue to lead the way.
Any blanket will work in a pinch π€ͺ

We are a team of NIH people. Please ask us questions you might have.
If you have been affected by the fires in LA, or are concerned about your ability to keep precious Drosophila strains going during the latest funding crisis, we will host your strains as a backup. Please email me.
Please amplify. If you are also able to host fly strains, add your name as well.

Wow, very important study, with implications for other transgenic models of AD, especially those with documented variability (which is many of them)

Here's the latest work from my group! We built a C. elegans model of human TMEM106b proteinopathy by expressing the human gene in neurons. TMEM106b is a new kid on the block in terms of aggregating proteins. Long story short, it can driven neurodegeneration. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36056242/
