New preprint! Really excited to share our spatial proteomic study on Plasmodium falciparum schizonts . We used hyperLOPIT to map thousands of proteinsβfrom apical invasion organelles to the infected red blood cell surface.

βThe idea that taking walks, reading things unrelated to your research, and hanging out with strangers in a campus pub should be considered part of the serious process of thinking, but might well meet with skepticism in practice.β

Many congratulations Ryuji. Your first paper on Plasmodium biology. Well done.
Happy Holi from our lab. Festival of colours. This to welcome the spring which I hope is round the corner.

Why? Because respect isnβt about clothesβitβs about character. And thatβs something money canβt buy.

Fluorescence microscope image showing a protein that goes to only one flagellum
The world is full of crazy and sad news, but here is a protein that localizes to only one of the two flagella
Plastids & mitochondria arose from separate endosymbioses of prokaryotes.Their prokaryotic ancestry makes them susceptible to antibiotics. Antibiotics kill pathogenic protists by targeting their plastids or mitochondria. Here we review the lop sided inheritance.

What started out as chromosome-counting blossomed into an exciting tale of evolution at the interface between the volatile centromere and the reliable, stable cell division machinery - the latest from the brilliant Jana Helsen, now looking to start her own group!

I like this plan from EupathDB - No paywall π. We can volunteer to pay a fee from lab budgets. And a "mortgage calculator" tool coming up in Jan to guide us estimate that fair price based on several variables like lab size and usage.

New preprint! How do cells rewire chromosome segregation during meiosis? We identify a germline-specific mRNA splice isoform for a critical kinetochore protein. This alternative protein transforms its regulatory control, contributing to proper fertility.
