If thats the case i imagine left wing users don't often engage with non-incendiary rightwing content because its not baiting enough lefties to click it. This means you're being fed the worst content of the opposing side while directed away from the moderate opposing content.

for example if you are very left wing and politically engaged. then an algorithm that simply feeds you what similar users engage with, would also pick rage bait content left wing users click impulsively.

I had the thought that algorithms often direct you to not only to echo chambers but also negative content about things you dislike. if an algorithm is designed to direct you to content others like you interact with. then that also means you get directed to rage bait content.
