Excited for this collaboration, new data, and fresh insights into how humans navigate social threat. π
π’ Coming soon: A fully funded PhD position in this project, thanks to @dfg.de .
If you're into social neuroscience, threat learning, or computational physiology β stay tuned!
Using multivariate EEG/MEG, peripheral physiology, and machine learning, we aim to reveal the neuro-psychophysiological mechanisms behind these individual differences.
We study how the heart, brain (EEG/MEG), and behavior react to social cues like angry faces or verbally communicated danger β and why some people orient toward threat while others shift straight into defense.
π₯ New Project!
Together with @smoratti.bsky.social weβre launching a social neuroscience project on how humans perceive and respond to threat.
Affective science has lost an extraordinary member of our community: Dr. Paul Ekman, who passed peacefully at home at the age of 91 on Monday. Dr. Ekman's pioneering cross-cultural research on the interpretation of facial expressions in emotional terms...(1)
A great pleasure attending to @anne-schacht.bsky.social presenting on recent developments in emotion*cognition interaction research. Facing salient faces is highly rewarding - thatβs true in experimentally controlled settings and even more in real life, thanks for coming to ZI-Mannheim

We used a brain "pinging" again and found that distractor suppression is reactive rather than proactive, meaning attention is first drawn to the distractor before being suppressed.
Friends, this video is well worth your time. My friend Michi Benthaus, an ESA engineer who will very soon make history as the first wheelchair user to visit space, has recently given a speech in front of the European Parliament.
