Espérons... Je remarque quand même un appauvrissement global de la langue dans les choses consommées massivement (jeux mobiles presse en ligne...)
On se contente de "good enough" et c'est bien triste.

Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.
This is how AI is killing translation work:
I've looked at a lot of resumes for aspiring translators and everytime I notice they have the relevant experience but they don't make it clear, meaning vendors are more likely to overlook them as potential freelancers.
Here's some resume advice if you're looking for freelance translation work.

Screenshot of a job offer that read "please note that the real value here is the exposure and future opportunities"
Screenshot of a message that reads as follows: This is currently a volunteer-based opportunity, but there are a few exciting benefits: ✨ Your name will be credited in the app, which is used and loved by over 400,000 users!
I just got my first offer to be paid in exposure! 👏 For games that are each "enjoyed by over 400,000 users", so you'd think they'd have money...

Shallie says "it's a chair" while standing in front of what is obviously a couch
Today on "context is king in localization, even for the simplest humanly possible sentences"
Time and time again translators are pointing out how machine translation produces terrible quality work, but it's normally the translators who are forced to make it somewhat readable for pennies, while middle men pocket the profits.
Marianna Nagy Dear all, We appreciate your valuable suggestions and feedback on improving memoQ. Your insights help us shape the future of our platform, and we are grateful for your continued support. Let me share an update regarding our development priorities: While we will continue maintaining our desktop application, we will no longer be introducing new features for it. Our focus is shifting towards enhancing our web-based platform. Our resources will be dedicated to developing and improving the web interface to provide a more seamless and feature-rich experience. Over time, we will gradually migrate key desktop functionalities to the web, ensuring an even better user experience. Some new features will be exclusively available on the web platform. In the long run, we remain committed to ensuring that users who do not have their own servers can also benefit from our improved web solutions. The specific feature you requested will soon be available on the brand-new memoQ editor.
Not sure what to think about this announcement by #memoQ. I prefer to have my texts, TMs, and term bases on my own computer, not on a web-based platform (that could be used to feed MT tools). And I prefer not be dependent on an internet connection or on browsers that may not always be compatible.
Unpopular Opinion : idéalement vous devriez faire relire vos textes de jeu par une personne extérieure à votre équipe (et dont c’est le métier*).

Agencies do not pay for these ones.
If there are multiple instances of the same word, it counts as "repetition", so every time you translate that word differently, you're not paid for it.
I made a post about the same issue with "that's right!" in Spanish.

This is my debut as a translator. The exercise has confirmed my long-held suspicion that my translators are three times cleverer than me, with a better command of English as well as the 'into-language,' plus a knowledge of the mysterious art and science that is translation itself. As a writer I can be bad, but I can't be wrong. A translator can be good, but can never be right. Translators are jugglers, diplomats, nuance-ticklers, magistrates, word-nerds, self-testing lie detectors, and poets. Translators rock.
Author and translator David Mitchell on translation: "Translators rock."
Of course, we already knew that... 💪😉

I love these. They're great exercises for game localization too.
Game translators often need to write lines that match the character and fit within a short time, come up with appropriate names for items, match the tone of characters, and be clear and informative with tutorial/hint text.
Reminder: Astro Bot didn't credit their translators, who made their game available in 28 languages.
In the credits, they're given a "thank you". That's all.
Would you do that for your dev team? Your graphics team? Your marketing or sales team?
Shame on you, Sony. #TranslatorsInTheCredits

Much has been written in retro literature about the creation of the classic Monkey Island, for example “On Stranger Tides”. Although little or nothing about its inspiration in the 1951 film “Double Crossbones”. Here we see Dave/Guybrush, determined to become a pirate. Thread 👇
