I don't really know what to make of this. Like... yes, that's why tens of millions of us (including me) voted for you: because we knew Trump and Republicans were going to unleash hell on us if you lost.

Comic panel of a car driving through the night, kicking up a cloud of dust
I'm so bad at drawing cars, but I like how this panel came out on the wholeπ₯
okay thats a pretty amazing coincidence, incidentally~
Lettering my comic has given me impostor syndrome like nothing else.

I do need to restock groceries soon.
Want to help a trans girl artist pick up a handful of things at the store?
We have the data. My longest columns have more readers, who read longer, and who share them the most.
Comic page WIP.
it is so fucking damning that we still have no updates or leaks from the trans phobic journalism listserv. Shameful pieces of shit.

I think it had another, more contextual thing going for it as well.

Somebody needs to do a deep dive into the tech pressβs central role in hurling us all into a nightmare world. So much of their approach to that project has consisted of them shamelessly tonguing obvious crackpots and charlatans.
Chronturbo Episode 5 (00:59:10)
Shining Knight and Bulleteer in particular feel like they had fairly contained and concluded stories.
I'm a little torn on all of this, because I definitely see the appeal of these ideas being taken further, but I also don't have any confidence that DC could have handled it competently. not without Morrison's assistance.
But it was also the era of Countdown, a lot of kind of underwhelming mini's, etc.
I do think that how you evaluate this era hinges a bit on how much you like certain authors. I.E. Morrison and especially Geoff Johns.
I have mixed feelings on post-IC DC. There were some cool things, and I give them a lot of credit for putting out some offbeat stuff, like a new Tor series from Kubert, and a new Bat-Lash, and they mostly let Morrison do their thing to fairly great results.
(I also have a take about Infinite Crisis and its aftermath that runs against the conventional wisdom of what DC was trying to accomplish with that and its subsequent moves, but its a slightly different topic.)
Like...late 90's DC...aside from No Man's Land, I cannot recall ANY notable stuff from this period except Morrison and later Waid's JLA...which were good and solid but not exactly iconic at that point.
Early aughts DC. There was HUSH and...what else, exactly?
Yeah, Marvel really turned itself around after the 90's crash by going all in on Ultimate Marvel.
But DC REALLY fizzled in the back half of the 90's, and struggled to find a coherent direction until they happened upon the "forever Crisis" approach.
Surely this is not shocking, but Rogan had most of the big anti-trans scientists that my reporting found to be in the Epstein files on his podcast.
Krauss even tried to connect Epstein to Rogan at one point.
They really gave Morrison and the artists free reign to do almost anything in that series. Genuinely a great example of editorial staff setting up great creative teams and then getting out of their way.
I really need an explainer on what the fuck is going on with influences and their love of Dubai.
This didn't seem like a thing even just a few years ago?
7 Soldiers was maybe the best thing DC did in an otherwise pretty underwhelming era.
I hate when ppl do generalized takes like βqueer ppl only want more positive art, weβre sick of horror and βbleakβ storiesβ and like speak for yourself lol I want lesbians in media to get even more unhinged. I want sapphic Hannibal
Genuinely great example of the "everyone is 12" dynamic at work.
I came of age reading physical comics, and later old school web comics. So that's the model in my mind. It's what I want to do. It's how I want my things to exist.
I also want to revive the old school, Claremont-era X-Men approach of extensive dialogue and prose.
