Having grown up in South Dakota, I have followed Kristi Noemβs corruption for years. Her firing feels like Christmas morning after her chaos and cruelty this past year. Might even pop some champagne tonight! π₯
Let me be clear: Iβm glad Kristi Noem was fired. But we still have to abolish ICE.
We are in the Find Out phase.
So... A friend was supposed to give a PURELY SCIENTIFIC talk at NIH within the next couple of weeks and it was cancelled because of a "new process" where all speakers/talks have to be CLEARED BY A POLITICAL APPOINTEE.

Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isnβt flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. π§΅π
Hard not to worry that this isn't another attempt by OMB's Russell Vought to override Congress's power of the purse.

Thanks to the Nature team for digging into this. Apportionment is one of those inside-baseball issues that I hoped never to need to learn about... But here was are.
My plant appβs guess is a beach plum, which is native to much of the US. But I am not a botanist, so do with that what you will. π
These numbers are devastating to scientists in training. The lack of K and F awards will decimate the future of science if these award numbers donβt pick up fast.

True, but an MD also provides one with legitimacy and access to spaces where they can do a lot of harm to others, including trainees. I donβt think completing degree requirements is enough when someone might have a record of doing harm.
