A dia d'avui més que mai hem de recordar aquestes lliçons, i hem de fer un enfasis en que en aquest vaixell que és Europa, o remem tots junts i treballem per arribar a terra ferma o ens enfonsarem.

El seu paper va ser especialment rellevant perquè va entendre Europa no només com un projecte institucional, sinó com una oportunitat per modernitzar, cooperar i reforçar la convivència entre pobles.
