I get the value cabinet official has on the ole presidential candidate resumé, but I think Taft (?) was the last non-VP cabinet member to end up president. And Markwayne isn't even the most viable candidate from his own state.
The only thing I can think is that he enjoys the national TV exposure.
I'm curious why Markwayne would want the DHS job? He has maybe the safest Senate seat in the country, and despite the eroded public respect for the institution over the last 20 years, being a US Senator is an incredibly powerful position. You're taking calls from heads-of-state and billionaires.
