A lovely listen. I felt deep sadness that the dominant political and cultural conversations are so distant from what the author explores. I did audiobook, but it would be a great read, with grounding passages where one could find guidance in this time of hyper-individualism and us vs. them thinking.
Book report: Do yourself a favor and settle in with this audio book (I LOVED hearing the author read it). Brilliant, beautiful, sometimes devastating reflections on power, race, gender, sexuality, culture, migration. The letters to James Baldwin are particularly rich.

A serendipitous gift of the library loan system was to get this audio book shortly after listening to A Burst of Light. The way Gumbs asks “maybe” about many details of Audre’s life is a refreshing approach to biography and lends breath, openness in contrast to expertise or ownership. Loved 🌟.
Blackouts by Justin Torres: misty word/image threads woven together to form a deep winding river exploring the erasure of queer history, friendship and intimacy, art, chosen and biological family, tenderness, and story telling. Beautiful and recommended.
