I grew up just outside of San Diego and my elementary school did the same thing. I still remember how fun it was!! We used our “gold” to buy pancakes in the cafeteria

Good picture books possess a graceful, subtle complexity that often exceeds longer books and is quite at odds with the habits of mind the president displays. I don’t think he could actually truly read a long prose book anymore, and I am certain he couldn’t read a picture book well.
