What's the most important piece in a query submission package? Do agents really read the sample pages first? How important is a synopsis?
Darling Axe editor Michelle Barker tackles these questions and more:

I kept this azalea (or rhododendrum going for a few years in a large pot but when I put it in the ground with lots of ericacious compost it died (our garden is quite alkaline)
This oil painting on board (sold) was painted directly in the garden in 2011 and shows an azalea in a pot, some pansies and a couple of decorative wooden birds. Also (hard to see) halfway up on the right our cat Millie paused to be included.

And lovely son has just phoned (he lives far away) and asked if I'd like to help him set up and run an online writing group so that old Molly won't be alone and I can spend time with other writers. And isn't that the most loveliest thing?
There's a #writers'j group I'd like to join but it's 1.5 hours away and the meeting is for 3 hours and I can't leave old Molly alone for so long.
Sunlight filters through a dense forest of tall, slender trees, forming visible shafts of light that illuminate drifting mist and fine particles in the air. The forest floor is rich with autumn color:golden ferns, moss, and fallen leaves glowing where the light reaches them while darker tree trunks and tangled branches frame the scene.

This semester has been one of the best teaching semesters of my life and it's almost entirely because of going 90%+ to pen and paper.
My students are fully doing it, without complaint, and it's beautiful. They're actually reading. They're writing weird shit. They're being brave.
They like this.
a brown wire-haired pup stands on a wooden deck in a grassy yard. he looks at us with golden eyes and his right ear flipped inside out. he has a pipe-shaped stick in his mouth, giving him the appearance of a sophisticated and dapper gentleman. just give him a deerstalker cap and a cloak, and he'd give Sherlock Holmes a run for his money.
This pup found a stick shaped like an old timey pipe earlier today and has already solved three mysteries. 13/10

I always try to tell a good story, one with a compelling plot that will keep the pages turning. - John Grisham ~ Background photo shows a boat on a clear clean mountain lake, the mountains in the background.

I'm having a hard time finding any literary agents willing to consider a novella (32k words) - does anyone have any recommendations, or should I try self-publishing? Any advice welcome!

Tonight I'll sit in the quiet, remembering and feeling the souls of those who are no longer here softly touch my memory and my heart. And I'll raise a glass in thanks. And in love. โค๏ธ

A car park was flooded, there were sheep on the golf course and ponies in the picnic area... but the beach belonged to us. Westward Ho! certainly earned its exclamation mark this evening. โค๏ธ
