I have a theory about this but it’s not going to be very palatable. They have seen the climate projections and know that the global south will be pretty much cooked. We have outsourced a lot of things to these countries. AI will take over after they die.

So they are ruining the environment to make cheap disposable consumer products and they are ruining the environment to build AI data centres to make largely worthless AI “products”. What is the end goal here?
Which makes zero sense, in a consumer driven economy. On a basic level, who will be left to buy things? We also have the enshitification on all sorts of consumer products (I don’t even want to buy things I can afford to buy bc they are awful)
About a decade ago I watched a documentary (don’t know the name, but it was produced in the UK). It outlined the logical conclusion of increased automation - fewer jobs for low skilled workers. But now we have both automation and AI to take jobs away from people on both ends of the spectrum.
I’m super against AI. Like very against it for all applications. But I’m wondering why billionaires are pushing for it. Is it more than surveillance and profit margins? They have access to climate models and demographic information that I’m assuming the average person doesn’t. What do they know?
