No one who ever trashed STARFLEET ACADEMY as a review bomber will ever write anything as good as Ep8, and they'll never act as well as the actors in this episode. (Note: I'm not trashing everyone who dislikes the show--just the people who are publicly dickish about it.) 1 of 2
The avalanche has started, and it's too late for the pebbles to vote
RIP Dan Simmons. Hyperion and sequels will be remembered for a long, long time.
Ehhhh. This is one measure of productivity, but it is at best a correlation. SW engineers famously think SLOC (or git commits!) are terrible metrics. How many new user problems are being solved with all of these Github commits and new iOS apps? Probably some, but I doubt 30% or 55%.
Today's episode of Starfleet Academy is both one of the most original sci-fi hypotheses in a long time, and one of the most beautiful stories. A classic. I feel sorry for those that aren't watching.
An all time classic episode, certainly my favorite of NuTrek.
Welcome to the future
I'm not a huge fan of sports analogies to other places in leadership and culture, but I'll make an exception in this case.
It's fiction. As someone also deey into the history of that time, I've enjoyed the show immensely but particularly S1 and S2. I'd recommend at least E5 or E6 but I think the S2 finale is the best of the bunch.
I love fiction written as future nonfiction; both this and Lena by @qntm.org are some of the most thought provoking short stories in recent memory. This one is very good on the "future" AI economic crisis.

A culture can be defined by what it rewards; it can also be defined by what it tolerates and does not punish.
By both measures, America is not a great place right now.
Is this observed in other modern contexts? Naively, perhaps tank battles might see similar effects in WW2?
The two hardest problems in Computer Science are
1. Human communication
2. Getting people in tech to believe that human communication is important
Question: do GAM rules incentivize smaller transfers with larger sell-ons, to spread the money across more years than a single lump sum?
This is the first (correctly-exposed) photograph of Earth taken by a human from space, captured 64 years ago today by NASA astronaut John Glenn from inside his Friendship 7 capsule during the Mercury-Atlas 6 orbital mission on February 20, 1962.
That is a hell of an admission from NASA.

"A publicly traded company does not like losing money. When will a publicly traded company start wanting to lose money?"
(This is not an accusation against Boeing.)
Farewell, brave steed.
This day, five years ago.
RIP the Perseverance Skycrane, giving us one of the most badass sci-fi-like photos in space exploration history.
