Maybe it would be possible to combine your system with the use of specific sensors/indicators in oligodendrocytes (metabolites, glutamate etc) to potentially capture how and when it starts reacting to axonal damage, even before myelin changes become obvious?

But in models where many axons are damaged simultaneously, the threshold is reached, and then myelination by the oligo will be affected.

Congrats, great work! If axo-oligo signalling regulates the maintenance of myelin and oligos maintain up to 50-80 internodes, then it is likely that a loss of a single axon ( or 2) might not reach a "threshold" to let the oligo know myelin maintenance needs to be modified.
