Coffee, straight out of my nose.
Writing is thinking.
This paragraph, by Carole McGranahan, encapsulates my main beef with LLMs and writing.
“Writing is a commitment to people”, says Jason DeLeon, quoted by McGranahan. Why, then, are we so eager to outsource this commitment to a piece of software?
It is completely reasonable to email your dean and/or Provost to ask what is being done at your university to stop this from happening to your students
Born #onthisday in 1868, the US sociologist + civil rights activist W. E. B. Du Bois. Celebrate with a look at the stunning hand-drawn "infographics" he made with his students, depicting conditions of African-American life in 1900: publicdomainreview.org/collection/w... #otd #BlackHistoryMonth
I’d put Steve Chen up there. That whole YouTube thing and all. 😁
Yet another indictment of the United States health system that James Van Der Beek’s wife and six kids need a gofundme because his unsuccessful cancer treatment destroyed them financially

jesus this is absolutely horrifying
I read the “SAVE Act” (the GOP’s new voter suppression bill) so you don’t have to. This is my one page summary. Jesus it’s bad. 1/
This news is just beyond wonderful.
1. It was not an accident.
2. It was not a staffer.
3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia.
4. He isn’t sorry. He means every racist thought he shares.
5. His base agrees with him.
6. He will do it again.
7. No one in power will hold him accountable.

I keep saying to people in my life that the problem with writing in these days is that you sound absolutely off your nut for simply saying what is happening.
Cool workshop in DC in June for higher ed policy academics with less than 10 years of research experience. Deadline to apply is March 1.

“There is no conceivable degree of institutional incompetence sufficient to explain the scale, consistency, and persistence of the failures that occurred —particularly where the sole task ordered by the Court and repeatedly emphasized by DOJ was simple: redact known victim names before publication,”
They literally just sat around and watched this baby die.
There can be no civilized society as long as cops exists.
This is just barbaric and cruel for no reason.
4 Black journalists have been kidnapped by the federal government
As someone that starts most 'work' writing by hand, I can tell that it has been a while since I've picked up a pen. Kinda like my recovery and learning how to walk again, I guess training my hands to have more endurance will be a process. Here's to making waves one word at a time.
Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities with his long coat between his legs. The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about “Western civilization,” while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
NEW: There are 2,400+ elections for DA & sheriff this year.
These matter hugely to criminal justice & policing—including: *these are often officials who decide ICE collaboration.*
So I took a dive into these 2,400+ races to identify early hotspots and battlegrounds.
Read, & check out our maps:
As we grieve for Alex Pretti and Renee Good in MN, please do not forget Victor Manuel Diaz, who died in ICE custody after being taken from here. And all others who have died in their custody.
I am not being snarky. I need my colleagues who wrote on covid school lockdowns to engage with this. To be as loud as they have been about prior "learning loss." Hell, you can cite Tom & Mark's AERJ paper so you feel better that there's some econ somewhere in your argument.
As clergy pray, arrests begin
Happy MLK day, gang! Martin was a Democratic Socialist, anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, thought white moderates were the bane of Black existence, and died on a trip to support a sanitation workers' strike!
Beware his sanitized and sanded-down edit!
Good morning 🥁
Maybe this will help folks see why I say the government desires to resegregate society
