If you like books. If you hate censorship. If you love kids. Please do this one important thing to fight a national book ban. Right now, if you donβt mind. Yes, just stop scrolling for a second and make the call and then you can come right back. Thanks!
This is unacceptable.
A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

If you are repped by anyone on this committee please CALL them and urge them to oppose this book banning legislation.
There are so many threats to so many people that I worry folks will miss this one: a federal bill that bans books about gender nonconforming and trans people from school libraries nationwide.
Banning books leads to banning people. Read the article & then call your representatives, Iβm begging you.
As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. Itβs often said you never know when youβre living through history, so let me assure you: thatβs whatβs happening now.

Deep canvassing is the hardest and most hopeful thing Iβve done this year. I came away filled with love for the ordinary people of this country and for the hidden stories we all carry with us, just waiting to be heard.
This was a fascinating conversation!
Just have to point out that no human being, no matter their crimes, should be kept in a place that people describe as a βliving hell.β Such places should not exist. It demeans us all that they do.
Big news tonight: Federal judge Tim Kelly has BLOCKED Bondi & Trump's attempt to transfer 20 men to an infamous super-max prison.
Biden granted these men clemency, and Trump has been trying to retaliate by plunging them in a place that people describe as a "living hell," as Bolts reported here:
And yes, it was thrilling!
Iβm still trying to figure it out in the vain hope of replicating the journey but I do think it was mostly word of mouth.
True, but schlepping along for months is exactly what happened with my book, The 57 Bus, which hit the list more than a year after its release.
Most people still donβt understand how bad the situation is when it comes to censorship of childrenβs literature.
My book, ACCOUNTABLE, is currently downpriced as an ebook for $2.99 through 2/15! bit.ly/4p8Gn7v
iβm really just mad about the fact that high schools consider statistics to be βsoft mathβ and colleges rate statistics lower than they rate calculus when considering admissions, so students are being actively discouraged from taking statistics in favor of taking calculus
This is the hill I will die on: understanding statistics is way more important than understanding calculus and high school curricula should reflect that. Fight me.
Incredible piece of reporting about both the horrific conditions at the Otey Mesa detention center and the inspiring activism of people on the outside who started by just showing up.
My takeaways:
- we canβt allow this to continue
- everybody can do something
- support local journalism

Bidding closes tonight. Search under Author Visits.
Authors get a lot of requests for free visits from schools who canβt afford to pay. This auction is an opportunity to double your impact by bidding on a school visit and then donating it to a school that would never be able to afford to have an author visit.
Just heard from a friend in MPLS how much this support means in keeping morale going there. Take a look and find something you like to bid on!
Bidding is now open for school visits, manuscript consultations, signed books, original art & more, all to benefit immigrants & resistors in MN.
Iβm offering 3 virtual school visits for students of any age, from preschool through grad school, plus a bunch of signed books.

I donated. Maine is waiting in the wings to be the next Minnesota. Letβs help.
My relatives were murdered in the Holocaust and I can say with confidence that the comparison is apt. Thatβs why the people of the Twin Cities are refusing to behave like Good Germansβor like the Dutch collaborator who turned in Frankβs family.
