Some people were confused by my ICE post. This should clear it up.

hilarious bookends on either side of two of the best movies of all time, but my HBO Max subscription expires either at midnight or tomorrow so I had to have the strangest marathon #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday

At last, procrastination and an expiring subscription have gotten me to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey and Casablanca.

Today I will see how many movies on my HBO Max list I can watch before my subscription ends (which will either be tonight at midnight or tomorrow)

One thing I pretty much always block people for on sight is using "physiognomy" when they mean "facial features." The resurgence of phrenology because of looksmaxxing a few years ago really spilled over from incels to other sorts of overly online gen zers

Probably my best four since I started posting these. Trying to wrangle my attention span to watch a bunch of stuff before cancelling HBO Max, failing.

I have 7 years worth of youtube videos I've put in "watch later" and never watched, and it's about to be the time of year when no one uploads. I think I will share the gems in a thread.

If you want to watch a movie that is not GOOD per se, but is oddly, unintentionally prescient about AI-related STEMlord behavior, may I recommend Deadly Friend? It is (like every memory-holed movie from the 80s) on Tubi. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

I don't think it was clear that the category was films that had no distributor. I know so many great films are overlooked, but with rental being more than a movie ticket for me, it's hard to justify $20-80 on films I've never heard of, that few people I trust have seen. 2/2

11.12.2025 01:12 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I think a lot of the letterboxd rental sticker shock is from people who don't live in NYC or LA, who were excited for this because of the way it was pitched. I've never paid for PVOD for wide release movies because it's more than a theater ticket where I live. 1/2

11.12.2025 01:12 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Was really excited for this as someone who doesn't live near a city that gets cool movies but $20 for a 48 hour rental is not going to work for me. So then I was like I'll do the cheaper ones, but apparently they're available on other services?? πŸ†’πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

All I want from a Robin Hood show is a hot radical committed to standing up for others. Yet the new MGM+ show is psy-op-like in its refusal to give me anything even remotely like that, plus it tries to convince viewers against wanting that at all. Ugh! @vulture.com

Careful out there tonight for it's #Krampusnacht! Popular in German-speaking Alpine folklore, the figure of #Krampus is a devil-like horned creature who punishes badly-behaved children the night before St Nicholas' Day. More Krampus cards here: publicdomainreview.org/collection/g...

Author Madeleine L'Engle’s granddaughter told the Wall Street Journal, "Instead, it's about the risk of any country -- including a democracy -- placing too much value on security. The tension between safety and personal freedom is an idea that resonates in today's politics." Words spoken in an interview a decade ago that could have been spoken today.

White can be a color of safety, tranquility, a moment of quiet in a noisy world. It can equally be a retreat from our responsibility to care for others. It can be the multimillionaire’s cavernous, empty mansion, away from the poor, away from ICE raids, away from suffering. It is a color that denotes class β€” the leisure and labor of others that keeps an unbleachable shade of white clean, unstained.

In my first non-child care blog, I talk about how our reaction to Pantone's color of the year stems from the very same repulsion Madeleine L'Engle evokes in A Wrinkle In Time
