It's painful how many states are considering bills to cut disability services/programs right now. One aspect that makes it very painful is that it's not coming from an inherently evil ableist place...it has to do with Medicaid cuts.
The Trump administration has shrunk the number of locations for this year's field test of the 2030 census and added plans to test replacing temporary census workers with U.S. Postal Service staff. n.pr/4brWDNL

"They seem unprepared for what they are facing. They have misjudged the ground beneath their feet: a state full of ordinary people β real estate agents, high school students β whoβve decided that watching their neighbors being dragged away is an intolerable sin..."

That is a sad statement about where we are.
We were at the National Gallery yesterday. More than a few of us with masks, no weirdness. My kind of place.
Respectfully Jon Stewart, you were wrong on the @weeklyshowpodcast.bsky.social to mock people who mask. ICYMI: there are tens of millions of Americans who have been disabled by #LongCOVID and must do everything in their power to prevent further infections that make them vulnerable to further

Wrote about how disappointing it is that Jon Stewart punched down on people masking at @motherjones.com, when people should mind their own business and leave mask wearers be. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Seeing thus news about Jon Stewart felt like a gut punch. Itβs hard enough being immune compromised w/out people questioning why you need to protect yourself when others wonβt.
Jon Stewart has some absolute fucking NERVE to be making fun of Long COVID survivors and people still masking on his piece of shit podcast when heβs seen UP CLOSE the government deny healthcare and resources for 9/11 survivors who breathed in toxic air and are suffering decades later.
What a psycho
Love this ad. Powerful.
Congrats on the good work!
I hear you. Itβs not just being tired either.

This is Alice's friend Sandy Ho, posting. Per Alice's wishes, this message is being shared at the time of her passing. Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin. We need more stories about us and our culture. You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.
π Alice Wongβs last words: βDonβt let the bastards grind you down.β
We can never thank Alice enough for fighting all the good fights and especially all the hard fights. We all learned so much from your brilliance, your courage, and your indefatigable leadership. We will never forget you.
Sorry to hear it. And share your pain. I have Sjogrens and now long COVID plus a flare.
