Investing in an affordable, sustainable future In the June Spending Review, the government committed £616 million in capital funding [footnote 1] to Active Travel England (ATE) from 2026 to 2030 to support councils in building and maintaining walking and cycling infrastructure. This is on top of the £300 million of funding for 2024 to 2026, which was announced in February 2025. This investment complements wider transport funding over the Spending Review period, which can be used to support active travel, including: £15.6 billion through the Transport for City Regions fund (TCR) £2.3 billion via Local Transport Grants £24 billion for strategic and local roads £900 million per year to improve and maintain bus services

What is surprising is that Loughborough university is dominated by athletes. I see cyclists and runners all the time obviously from the university and they are having to navigate very dangerous roads due to idiotic drivists.

As ever, it's a postcode lottery that never affects driving!

Very interesting and good on Leicester. A shame Leicestershire is failing though. I live just outside Loughborough and there is some really dodgy cycle infra.

The Council have put out the draft Local Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for consultation, until the 17th September. This plan sets out their long-term vision & priorities for improving walking, wheeling & cycling routes across the city. consultations.leicester.gov.uk/transport/lc...

Something I just read prompted me to check some government figures. In 2023, 34.52m people held driving licences out of a population of 68.3m. That's just 51% of people

Interestingly, DfT like to calculate this percentage using the *adult* population, which gives 74%
