Investing in an affordable, sustainable future In the June Spending Review, the government committed ยฃ616 million in capital funding [footnote 1] to Active Travel England (ATE) from 2026 to 2030 to support councils in building and maintaining walking and cycling infrastructure. This is on top of the ยฃ300 million of funding for 2024 to 2026, which was announced in February 2025. This investment complements wider transport funding over the Spending Review period, which can be used to support active travel, including: ยฃ15.6 billion through the Transport for City Regions fund (TCR) ยฃ2.3 billion via Local Transport Grants ยฃ24 billion for strategic and local roads ยฃ900 million per year to improve and maintain bus services

A great write up, thank you.
Your powers of recall are stupendous, especially given the temperatures on the day. Boring Leicester actually fits with the @leicestercyclingcg.bsky.social vision of #MakingCyclingNormal.
Coming to @activetravelcaf.bsky.social soon?
What is surprising is that Loughborough university is dominated by athletes. I see cyclists and runners all the time obviously from the university and they are having to navigate very dangerous roads due to idiotic drivists.
As ever, it's a postcode lottery that never affects driving!
Very interesting and good on Leicester. A shame Leicestershire is failing though. I live just outside Loughborough and there is some really dodgy cycle infra.

Back in July, I went for a cycle around Leicester, 10 years after the last time I cycled around Leicester.

Something I just read prompted me to check some government figures. In 2023, 34.52m people held driving licences out of a population of 68.3m. That's just 51% of people
Interestingly, DfT like to calculate this percentage using the *adult* population, which gives 74%

We were delighted to be able to bring Ranty up to date with all things cycling in Leicester, and the odd cold beer on a very hot day. Can't wait to hear his verdict.
