Sixty-one years ago, a group of courageous men and women crossed a bridge in Selma, Alabama to make the promise of our nation real.

Today, we remember that day as β€œBloody Sunday.” Few can speak more eloquently about the events of that day than President Obama did 11 years ago.

"A gallon of gasoline weighs about six pounds. When you burn it, the carbon atoms mix with oxygen atoms in the air to form about 19 pounds of carbon dioxide. The average American car driven the average American distance releases about its own weight in CO2 each year."

This weekend marks the anniversary of a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement: Bloody Sunday. On March 7, 1965, peaceful marchers crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma while demanding the right to vote. We honor their courage and continue the fight for justice and equality. ✊🏾

The war in Iran shows us another cost of our fossil-fuel economy our reliance on fossil fuels makes us less safe

"That’s $81 billion β€” every year β€” and it doesn’t appear on your gas station receipt. It’s a subsidy, paid by taxpayers, that makes oil look far cheaper than it actually is. Spread across U.S. oil consumption, it works out to roughly $11 per barrel, or about 28 cents per gallon."

I love how this still pops up when you visit EPA's webpage for the US GHG Inventory.

The April mentioned here is April 2025. It's a weird time capsule back to before the inauguration.

How would the Iran crisis play out in a world powered by renewables not fossil fuels? This conflict exposes the fragility of the global fossil fuel economy and how renewables create resilience.

"Decarbonisation is often framed as a climate necessity. It will also lead to a redistribution of geopolitical power, probably towards greater stability."

One thing that we haven't mentioned is that a major justification for them rolling back fuel economy standards and repealing the Endangerment Finding is that the US is energy independent and buffered from global energy markets.

Britain used as much coal last year as it did in 1600 The use of coal last year fell by 9 million tonnes and helped drive down Britain’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2.4 per cent

Coal use in the UK during 2025 was as low as it's been since Elizabeth I was Queen
