Awful. But I'm surprised the NYT is reporting this. I suspect that now that the Trump administration is the face of this sadism (and that Gaza has already been destroyed) they feel comfortable reporting this.
The article is worth reading but the timing should be noted.
The more I study and visit so-called Global South countries, the more I learn about their problems related to the carbon economy and climate disasters, the more I am convinced that they represent the future, not the past, of the Global North.
Rules for thee, not for me. JD Vance wasn’t picked because he was a plumber. How can anyone on the right still believe this bile.
This piece about Bill Gates' about-face on climate is essential. But anyone who read his book How To Avoid A Climate Disaster ought not be surprised.
Perhaps I’m being too optimistic but I doubt he’ll drift any further to the right when it comes to environmental issues. He’s simply removing Poilievre’s biggest vote-getter. If that’s what it takes to prevent a CPC victory that’s fine by me.

Each time you see a targeted ad, your personal data has just been exposed to thousands of advertisers & data brokers through a process called "real-time bidding" (RTB).
This lets data brokers harvest & monetize your online activity, which fuels government surveillance. 🧵(1/11)
They won’t actually do anything. A few deportations here and there, more near the midterms, especially in swing states and districts, but I expect Trump to return to Obama’s first term immigration policies (his border Tsar worked for Obama and he’s just a talking head anyway). Performative sadism.
Fed up with Meta? Avoiding Instagram or Facebook isn’t enough to stop Meta from harvesting and profiting from your private information. Here’s how to limit Meta’s ability to monetize your personal data.
I’m hoping we can pull it together up North. Sheinbaum must stand shoulder to shoulder with every progressive leader because I can’t stand the idea of having reactionary tech guys like Andressen & Hanania puppeting Trump around to harm us. I hope this blows up in their face. They don’t represent me.
According to Betteridge’s law of headlines, the answer, is no.
Without alienating their workforce or creating incentives to organize against big businesses. They can even, covertly, maintain high levels of legal immigration as long as they publicly antagonize undocumented immigrants or try to ‘articulate unheard grievances’ on the southern border. 3/x
If they position themselves as ‘libertarians’ who want to allow more free speech on now less controversial, but previous contentious, issues like immigration or gender politics they’ll create less friction with the incoming administration, pay less in taxes, deal with fewer regulations, 2/x
They’re simply recalibrating themselves to the post-woke consensus. Outlets like the FT telegraphing the change as a genuine change of heart is hilarious, but it does tell you that most companies have, correctly, concluded that MAGA is a better cover and vehicle for their interests. 1/x

Not the cause of the problem.
He’s a scumbag, make no mistake about that, but we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact he’s simply following orders. There’s no good reason to get mad at him, you should be more concerned about the deputy who will actually be in charge of the DoD’s policies. This bottle blonde bloke is just a symptom,
The Blob needs to get the buy in of right wing young men if they want to have any hope of solving their recruitment crisis. This is why they picked a dim witted showboat like Hegseth to be the face of the DoD. Every shrill liberal reaction does nothing but bolster his credentials to RWYM.
What lies ahead. I do not know. But I must press on.
You can’t skinny dip into the rubicon, you must cross if you want to succeed. Starting a coup and failing to go through with it is beyond pathetic. To be clear, I’m glad he didn’t succeed, I’m simply providing my view from a value neutral perspective.
