Translating creative works can be an emotionally taxing experience, I think. Maybe that's not the most accurate assessment of the activity, but at the very least, I don't quite know if I'd be doing it right if I wasn't feeling anything.

I could absolutely translate this more literally. It'd be easier too. But I wouldn't be doing justice to what's being said behind the words. I'd do no justice to the story, to the author's loving craft, the readers who deserve that great experience. It hurts to do a job I know could be done better.

#amtranslating some of my favorite moments from this manga series, which I was a fan of all the way back in high school (!!). Was pondering my experiences and feelings as a reader then, and how I'm translating it now... It just has me thinking—

Making a Frankenstein-themed zine for an assignment and since I have absolutely no chill about anything at all, decided to include some pages from a manga that I'll translate and typeset (since I didn't want to photocopy the official and using scans is icky). Forgot how fun manga translation is!

AI (LLMs) is TERRIBLE at translation. It should never be used for client/audience facing work, especially entertainment translation like manga and games.

And I'm tired of misinformed people trying to cut corners with it instead.

If you want straight theory, I think Routledge's _The Translation Studies Reader_ edited by Lawrence Venuti is a good place to start for some broad history. For more Japanese-focused stuff, Judy Wakabayashi's _Japanese-English Translation_ has also been insightful every time I've opened it.

I love words and am intrigued in things like narrative, genre, form, & the linguistic crossings that happen when translation's in the mix. Secondly we have Metaphor: ReFantazio, my first project! Can't do my feelings towards it justice with the space I have here, but the team really gave it their all! Drew Maria, who made me cry when I first started, to mark the occasion. Figuring out the Euchronian script was hard, but it's passable?!
