It’s also billed as luxury housing, one of many such buildings coming to the west end of the San Fernando Valley as part of the football team’s gigantic development plan near its headquarters. So, little to no affordable housing. And no real plan for improving public transport in the area. 3/
It’s still under construction so perhaps I’ll be surprised in the end, but this is one of L.A.’s hottest, as in extreme heat, neighborhoods. It seems not to even include passive cooling features like window awnings on south- and west-facing walls. 2/
For all of L.A.’s bluster about becoming a sustainable city, this kind of development is springing up everywhere. No evidence of green walls nor green roofs, and since this building is taller than three stories, it’s not required to have solar. Satellite images aren’t new enough to show me. 1/

Three bags of lemons.
It’s that time of year again. I harvested my backyard lemons to give to Food Forward, a surplus food rescue organization in L.A. that redistributes food to hunger relief orgs. The lemons have gone to Our Story Is, a small op that does a free food box delivery service for folks who are food insecure.
Happy 200th birthday to one of my alma maters, @ucl.ac.uk. My experience there was bittersweet; I completed my master's programme during the pandemic and had no in-person classes. It was a difficult yet sublime year of learning and I'm proud to be a part of the institution and UCL Anthropology.
