Hello beautiful #Brussels! Very excited for another #Ukraine workshop tomorrow with Sachin Shah (Univ. of Texas), Olga Trofimtseva (Ukraine Facility Platform), and others to discuss policy avenues to transform Ukraine's #agriculture to become more sustainable and align with #EU #CAP regulations.
As #Texas and #Oklahoma head into a weekend of extremely low #temperatures, I remember the #freeze there 5 yrs ago, with budding nature encased in ice that occurred alongside major power outages, frozen pipes, raided store shelves, and many deaths. Stay safe everyone. #txwx #okwx
The authoritarian, violent, and anti-science actions of the Trump admin over the past week show clear contempt for democracy and the public good, endangering people in the US and around the world.
Congress must uphold its constitutional responsibility and hold the administration accountable.

Wissenschaftsbarometer 2025. Iโve been thinking that too. Not to mention, research on feasible solutions takes time, which we will have less and less of. Iโm worried the solutions we come up with will fail to often, wasting precious time and resources and eroding trust in science. Slippery slope ๐ซค

It is cool that Mosel ist much more than Riesling. However, moving the focus away from Riesling to other grape varieties is crucial. Climate Change increases average temperatures, leading to declining Riesling quality in the mid and long run.

Months of meetings, phone calls, and emails went into preparing this event. Huge thanks to my fellow postdoc rep, Dr. Marlene Palka, our Ph.D. rep colleagues Clara Rohde, Tara Meghana Kaila and Daniel Edem Halolo, and our early-career research coordinators Dr. Sandra Kerbler and Lena Domke.
I'm glad so many of our peers followed our invitation and attended the panel discussion, participated in the breakout sessions with our panelists, and connected over tea and coffee. It was so rewarding to hear all the positive feedback we got.
Our goal was to shed light on #non-academic #careers to our #Ph.D. #students and #postdocs, which is so important. Many of us only see academia as the path forward, without understanding the slim chances of becoming a professor and w/o gaining the skills necessary to succeeding elsewhere.
Our panel experts worked in the private sector (saschareth.bsky.social), in academic publishing (atinsharma.bsky.social), in public service (Lena-Katharina Schmidt-Rudolph), and in the non-profit sector (Martin Mรผller-Butz).
This week, my colleague Clara Rohde and I interviewed a wonderful panel of experts at @zalf.bsky.social, all of whom have Ph.D.s but none of them work in #academia, about their work and the skills they need to succeed.
