I feel like you owe a bigger apology to Europeans for measuring Europe's biggest game convention in the most American of freedom units.

but where are your endless mountains of bits and cardboard?
Your horse video is my favorite thing I've seen on the internet in about 3 years
Now I need to go watch it again
There's never been a video that so perfectly summed up the 3 archetypes of the Democratic Party:
1. The Compromised
2. The Confused
3. The Courageous
Yes, especially when the original game was solid at 2 players
I'd never heard that joke! Love it
Pepperoni Pilates
That's a fantastic typo
"[GAME]: The Dice Game" are the cover songs of the board game world
Ooh, I had that shiny golden NES game
I played this prototype at a Protospiel. It was good fun!
Put em in a glob of salsa and eat em with a spoon. I'm not a sophisticated person.
Dental consultants = toothsayers
All Dogs Go to Heaven fanatics = donbluthsayers
With that joke, you're more like Oofsayers, amiright?
Bigger cards coming soon!
Study the finalists' videos from previous years. I guarantee you'll be able to easily identify the hooks that made those games rise above all the other very competently designed games.
I've just finished my @cardboardedison.com judging, and here's my final ๐ฒโ๏ธ observation:
The competition is strong. Nearly every game I reviewed was competently designed. How do you stand out?
HOOKS! Make sure you have crystal clear and awesome theme, mechanic, and/or component hooks.
Makes sense. I'll see if I can bump up the default size or add an option in user preferences to display larger cards.
Do you mean the font in the images of the cards?
One possible solution is to increase the card sizes, but I worry about screen real estate.
Good luck! Hit me up if you have any questions.
Sweet! This is the first thing that I've coded on BGA. I am learning a lot. I look forward to your feedback.
The Game Boy Geek just reviewed Soothsayers!
"Overall, this game's fantastic!"
"It's pretty simple mechanically, but man, this has tons of depth"
"Lots of player interaction"
"Very tense at the end"
This might be the most useful application of The Matrix's "I know kung fu" technology
Now I think I'm going to make that game
For a moment, I thought those pics were from the same game, and I was like "Oooh, what's that???"
Soothsayers is holding strong at an 8.2 on BGG after 75 ratings.
Most recent: "Banger hidden in this little box. This has great inspirations, you can feel the love for classic games the designer has. The direct interaction is spicy af! I just love it."
it's a real bun banger
Definitely. You also need to embrace the grind of editing rules, running unguided playtests, etc. over the sublime joy of working on something new.
Observation on Day 3 of ๐ฒโ๏ธ @cardboardedison.com judging:
Keep your core gameplay loop as close to "Do 1 Thing" as possible.
This is particularly true for family-weight games, but even heavier games can deliver a lot of depth with just "play 1 card" or "place 1 tile."
