Absolutely genius. The guy who runs the local the dump/landfill is always pulling good stuff aside, I wonder how many sinks he's stockpiled by now...

Absolutely genius. The guy who runs the local the dump/landfill is always pulling good stuff aside, I wonder how many sinks he's stockpiled by now...
4 kitchen double sinks and 1 smaller vanity type. they rest between 2x6 boards and are used for starting seeds.
from the dumped sink collection. starting seeds. happy Friday.

a cartoon rooster saying "I say, I say, that boy is about as sharp as a sack full of wet mice."
a very tiny asparagus shoot next to a finger in a garden bed
I guess the asparagus I started from seed last year is still a bit small to do anything with π #FoodGarden #homesteading #selfsufficiency #gardensky
a garden bed full of freshly planted baby onion shoots
Bought and planted a bare root peach tree today, still deciding where the grape vine I also got will be planted tomorrow. 50 Walla Walla sweet yellow onion starts are in, added fresh rainbow chard seeds to the miserly plants already there. More tomorrow. Feels good. #FoodGarden #homesteading
Absolutely love this.

"Second Garotte" is just east of Groveland, CA. Groveland used to be known as "Garotte" but the town decided to change the name to something a little nicer. The site of their cabin (now gone) is near the "hanging tree" along Old Hwy 120 next to Yosemite Pines Resort.
I had to read that several times to figure out that your grandfather wasn't 13 when he died because I was like... he had a kid at the age of 13??

a raspberry bush planted up against a wire fence
very long sedge rhizomes freshly dug from a garden bed with the parent plants nearby
A couple more garden pics for you. A newly-planted raspberry (for a total of 3 varieties now) and some whiteroot (AKA basket sedge, AKA Carex barbarae) freshly gathered from my own garden bed. No more driving 2 hours to forage for it! #basketmaking #fiberarts #foodgarden #selfsufficiency #gardensky
a garden bed with four kinds of lettuce seeds planted
a pile of long willow rods in a garden
madder plant shoots coming up between last year's dead leaves
a really big reddish brown millipede held in a hand wearing a green glove
Good weather for gardening. Lettuce planted, freshly cut willow rods gathered for making pea trellises, the madder's coming back to life, and I even found a cool friend. #zone8b #gardensky #homesteading #cottagecore #selfsufficiency #foodgarden #dyegarden #DIY #spring
Both were teachers.
Did I buy Camelia sinensis cuttings on Etsy this morning to start growing my own tea? Yes, yes I did. It's hardy in zones 7 to 9 & grows just like ornamental species Camelia japonica or Camelia sasanqua. It even has pretty white flowers. #homesteading #gardensky #selfsufficiency #survival #caffeine
Gas prices going up = more expensive food. Supply chain interruptions = grocery store chaos. Scarcity is coming. The war = $1 BILLION PER DAY. The safety nets are being fed into the death machine. You need to rely on YOU for your food. Learn to forage, grow your own, or barter with neighbors NOW.
Literally destroying the world because a narcissistic sociopath with dementia thought someone looked at him funny.
You are the best
So many people over there fighting for "The Most Non-Answer Award"
Knowing your plants friends around you helps you feel empowered, capable, and safer. It's reassuring to know how to find food, get safe water, start a fire, cook over it, make your own yarn, knit or crochet your own garments & blankets, herbal remedies, etc.
Honestly the only 2 reasons I'm on Bluesky is to get news and to post practical survival & homesteading info. You may not need to know what plants are growing around you right this minute, but if things get as grim as they could, you don't want to have to eat grass for survival. Plan & learn now.
In one of the previous empty lot pics I was trying to get the huge artichoke plant growing there but missed it. When walking down an industrial street in Los Angeles recently I spotted rosemary, lavender, and wild lettuce within just a couple of blocks. Food is everywhere. #UrbanForaging
an urban street with a citrus tree and plot of bright yellow oxalis flowers
Urban foraging: Yet another loaded citrus tree on the left, a whole field of oxalis on the right. The yellow flowers of oxalis make a bright yellow dye that is self-mordanting (oxalic acid), and the stems are edible but only in small amounts -- add them to a salad for a unique sour accent.
a view from a BART train window showing many San Leandro houses with citrus trees full of fruit in their yards
Urban foraging: Citrus trees are everywhere in the Bay Area. This is just one street in San Leandro.
a verdant empty lot next to houses and an industrial yard full of shipping containers
A huge verdant lot next to houses in Oakland. The cement slab foundation of some old structures are still visible through the plants.
A surprising amount of urban land that could be feeding people just sits there empty. Much of it is probably contaminated but I'm betting a lot of it isn't. This is just one parcel in the middle of Oakland.
It's pasteurized process war food
I just bought an economy plus plane ticket between two major hubs, direct flight. It was almost $1000.
This is the end game for Christian Nationalists. Tear everything down so it brings the end of the world and the rapture. Not even joking here.
