okay so this seems pretty clear. he knows what it is, he did it on purpose, he chose keeping it over his career with the Marines, if we know this then Susan Collins will also know it, it will 100% come up in the general, let's be done talking about this guy as a real candidate

Of course Platner knew what his Nazi symbol was. It changed his life. His tattoos were reviewed when he asked to return active duty; a trained officer looked for violations. The sleeve tattoos were OK. The Totenkopf was not. Platner chose to keep it. Somewhere in DoD, it’s all written down. 5/

Let’s talk about Graham Platner’s Big Lie, finally. In 2009, at the height of the Gulf War, the Marines barred him from active duty. Platner claims it was his forearm tattoos. But his one forbidden tattoo was the Nazi symbol on his chest. He knew - and he left the Marines rather than give it up. 1/

My university received a few years ago the promise of the largest single gift to a public university in U.S. history. It was equivalent to 12 hours of bombing Iran.

Inside the US’s AI plans for defence and future warfare The US military used Anthropic's Claude AI, but after Anthropic refused to remove guardrails against mass surveillance and autonomous weapons, the Pentagon cancelled the contract and turned to OpenAI.

In war game sims AIs choose to launch nukes in 90% of scenarios.

This could be how how AI actually destroys the world. Not because it’s intelligent, but because enough humans in power issued total cognitive surrender to it

Southern California air board rejected pollution rules after AI-generated flood of comments The opposition appeared overwhelming: Tens of thousands of emails poured into Southern California's top air pollution authority as its board weighed a June proposal to phase out gas-powered appliances...

They were going to pass rules to phase out gas stoves, until they received 20,000 public comments against the regulations. Except, oops, it turns out the comments were generated by AI.

If DHS couldn't make soft-sided tents work from a health standpoint, then there is an actual 0% chance they will make unventilated, hastily retrofitted detention warehouses work.

How Fossil Fuel Disruptions Lead to Booms in Solar and Batteries Past oil crises forced countries to cut fuel use and pay high prices, but now falling prices of clean tech offer another solution.

Past fossil-fuel price spikes left import-dependent countries with two options: pay up or cut fuel use. Now there is an alternative in solar and batteries.

I looked at recent examples in Europe, Pakistan, Cuba to glean what might happen with the war on Iran.

I’ve unmasked a white nationalist fight club in my city: Montreal.

After weeks of work (with help!), I can reveal an Olympian as a member of the Frontenac Active Club β€” one who, unbeknownst to the owners, brought them to a local gym for training and propaganda photos.

Here’s my investigation:

πŸ‘€ Solar’s the cheapest form of energy and new batteries are cheaper than new gas plants.

Yet here in NY, corporate dem Hochul is pushing Trump math to pretend that high energy costs due to high gas costs and legacy maintenance issues are the climate law’s doing. 🀬

The legislature must stop her!

Yes, but also, you don't need to *keep* arguing with him after you've made your stance clear and told him off.
For your own sake and the sake of everyone else trying to enjoy dinner, just stop engaging/talk over and around him, and let him/online randos stew in their impotent anger.

WHOA. Camp East Montana in El Paso opened in August and quickly became the deadliest ICE facility, with infamously terrible conditions.

Now ICE is closing it, just as they plan to open up a detention camp nearly three times larger in a converted warehouse just outside El Paso.

*to clarify, lots to criticize here re the actions and behavior of former acting CISA Director Madhu Gottumukkala, Noem, DHS, and the irresponsible and dangerous actions of this admin, not Politico's coverage of the story.

I adore Maddow, but she talked about this story in her opening monologue last night and spent way too much time framing polygraph results as something very real and to be taken seriously, which is very disappointing.

Canceled contracts, a failed polygraph and personal disputes: Inside the turbulent tenure of Noem’s former cyber czar A dozen current and former officials said that former acting CISA Director Madhu Gottumukkala’s leadership was troublesome for the agency long before his reassignment late Thursday.

Lots to criticize here, but it should be stated clearly that polygraph tests are bullshit bunk science, and the only noteworthy thing about him taking one is that he and the federal intelligence agents who still use them are gullible enough to believe in fairy dust.

Pete Hegseth’s Crazed, Angry Tirades on Iran Give Dems a Big Opening It’s not enough for Democrats to say Trump’s war rationales haven’t been fully explained. The problem is that they are patently false.

Pete Hegseth's crazed rants at reporters reveal that Trump's rationales for attacking Iran are incoherent, confused, and based on lies. Dems don't have to take refuge in criticizing Trump's war on purely procedural grounds. They can go much harder. 1/

Media Matters analyzed a year of NYT coverage of anti-trans bills and found that 66% of the time the paper didn't quote a trans person. Further, it found that the paper often quoted right wing sources without mentioning their histories of anti-trans rhetoric.
So "right-wing rag" is pretty accurate.
