Coming to Glasgow again in August xx get ya tickets now
We canβt work it out, which is why weβre still listening
Thanks for the recommendation, which, coming from you, carries some weight! I find those kind of books hard work normally but maybe will make an exception
Agree- thereβs a ton of detail but at the same time a ton of space, which should not be possible!! You remember it as bare-bones but actually the production is extremely sophisticated
Inspired by watching this very heart-warming video (jimmy rip reminiscing about his friendship with Tom Verlaine, centred around his guitar and expanding to his eccentricities) youtu.be/XZwbyH9A5cU
Listening to this for the millionth time and still hearing new things - murky piano chords mixed low, vocals double tracked (or ADT?) the double tracked leads by Richard Lloyd, how much Verlaine is singing from the stomach, the beautiful EQ job. Like all truly great music it is, at times, baffling
The Clientele - I Am Not There Anymore
An expansive 2xLP set, from the opener Fables of the Silverlink it's a gorgeous mix of chamber pop, field recordings, spoken word, piano instrumentals, strings & dreamy lyrics & vocals
Phrases & names return across songs binding this sumptuous album together
REISSUES OF THE YEAR 2025 - No. 9: βThe Violet Hourβ by The Clientele
One of the best from the indie jangle dreamers, and my personal most listened to group of the year.

Happy to read this, no pressure for the next one then!
Wow, one from the vault!
This is the closest we came to writing a Christmas song. Goes without saying it eventually saw release in mid-August theclientele.bandcamp.com/track/saturd...
I saw the season-perfect @theclientele.bsky.social at the cosy and intimate St Pancras Old Church on Wednesday and have 3 videos from the evening. The first is 'Bonfires on the Heath': www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiJs...
The Clientele released Suburban Light on this day in 2000 (28 November 2000). You can replay the listening party (no_753) here:

Until last night Optimum Reverb for The Violet Hour was my deserted communal shower room at my old university . St Mathias now takes the prize.
β¦and once more to worship the spectral, altar-ed states of @theclientele.bsky.social This time illuminating St. Matthias Church from within.
Potential to be a special one tonight
Gotta serve somebody
Lamplight is getting more free though still anchored in D
Lots of fun last night; disconcerted to be playing on top of Richard Nichols grave; walk on music by the great Eberhard Weber; there actually was a St Pancras; ah the French champagnesβ¦. Thank you all and see you tonight
The stained-glass sounds of @theclientele.bsky.social at St. Pancras Old Church. @jameshornsey.bsky.social
A magical evening at Old St Pancras Church with beat nature poets @theclientele.bsky.social. I never clicked before how much Television there is in them.
A very moving and generous account of interactions with our music. And from a fellow suburban contrarian too, which makes it all the better.
