People want solutions - not scapegoats.
GB Energy, which promises to provide that clean energy, is funded in part by the windfall tax (officially called the Energy Profits Levy).
So scrapping the tax would raise serious questions about how GB Energy will be funded.
Backing renewables is the answer to cheap and secure power in an increasingly volatile world. I think Ed Miliband knows this, but I’m not sure Rachel Reeves does - judging by news that she has promised oil and gas bosses she will scrap the windfall tax...

6️⃣ Decarbonising UK industry mustn’t mean just offshoring it as that obviously does nothing for global carbon emissions.
5️⃣ This stage of the transition to net zero needs to be led by our communities. The government needs to fund local authorities and community organisations to work *with* ordinary people during the transition 👫
4️⃣ During the transition, it's important we avoid over-reliance on new technologies like carbon capture that aren't at commercial scale yet. The government should build in longer lead times for these than for technologies like wind power, and have a contingency plan
3️⃣ Workers need to be at the centre of the transition to net zero. We’re calling on the government to publish an assessment to ensure a just transition for those who work in industries like oil and gas 👷📄
2️⃣ Cutting emissions to net zero is essential – and the government needs to do it *with* people, not *to* people. That means paving the way with policies that improve people’s lives: delivering warmer homes, lower running costs, cleaner air and better local environments 🤝🌱
1️⃣ The “low hanging fruit” of decarbonisation is already happening. The measures to come will impact our daily lives. There is a huge opportunity for that impact to be positive - lower bills, warmer homes, healthier lives. But there's also a risk of getting it wrong… 🚃🏡🔋

As oil and gas companies see rocketing revenues, and more people face job insecurity, now is the time for the government to end tax breaks for fossil fuel companies, and support oil and gas workers into green jobs instead.
