So I think; although here perhaps 'onder' does suggest the sense is more 'among the writings'?
Hessels, Archivum v3 preface, mentions finding several boxes in the church full of mouldering old papers but these were letters and bills that I think were preserved rather incidentally.
There was a consistory room (obviously) at the W end of the church; also a diaconate. The library room was above but was constructed for the books in the 1650s. 'Schrifterij' I think might well mean a chest as well as the papers. Any actual chest no doubt damaged in C19 fire.
No, surely not?!
It's definitely a collection that deserves attention (disaggregated though it now is!). I shall look forward to the fruits of your notaries project :)
Are you looking at the benefactors' book? It's a wonderful survival that. I did a bunch of work matching it up with a later C17 catalogue and then never followed it up properly, alas.
By Carlo Crivelli? It was on display when I was there earlier this month. Room 59!
On her road to school when a very small child she had to pass a gate where a horrid Turkey Cock was generally standing.
If it's C. Jesse, 'Early Days, 1493-1763', there seems to be a copy in the Bodleian (offsite storage), I don't know whether that is of any use?
I caught this morning morning's minion, king-
dom of daylight's dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he hung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy!
HBD Backlisted, and thank you (all) for all the work you put into these wonderful podcasts, I really love them. Started listening when the Jilly Cooper episode first came out, immediately went back to the beginning. Was just looking at the archive to pick a favourite, can't: what riches!
