We’ve known Esa since before Remora House existed. She had a huge personality, was loving & kind, an amazing poet, advocate, & friend.
We will miss her terribly.

The Haymarket Martyrs monument dated 1887, a large stone pillar with decorative cap and a dark metal sculpture of a woman in flowing robes and hood holding a sprig of leaves in front of a man who lays behind her. A metal wreath sculpture is on the pedestal below her, below that is inscribed “the day will come when our silence will be more powerful than the voices you are throttling today.”

Visited the Haymarket Martyrs Memorial and gravesites.
We didn’t realize a lot of other comrades are buried here — Voltairine De Cleyre, Emma Goldman, Ben Reitman, & of course Lucy Parsons.
Very cool to see folks still leaving offerings, we left some of our own.

You can check DC’s encampment website for scheduled clearings.
Check on your neighbors when it’s a cold alert but also when it’s warmer. They may be facing an eviction on the days they get some reprieve from freezing temps.
Another cold alert.
Several years ago advocates tried to get DC to ban evictions during the entirety of hypothermia season, Nov-March. It didn’t pass.
So, if there’s a warm day, the city can trash someone’s life-saving supplies the day before they could potentially freeze to death just not day of.
