What's so insidious about this particular line is that it sets a framework for courts to bless any number of coercive measures by state and federal governments to get people to not transition. It establishes coercing people not to transition as a legitimate government interest.

They ruled that states "encouraging citizens to appreciate their sex" through care bans is a constitutional goal, affirming West Virginia's Medicaid ban for trans adults.

It even directly says that trans adult care bans are legal in the ruling.

City and county civil rights commissions may no longer protect Iowans from gender identity-based discrimination under a law signed by Gov. Reynolds.
