Interesting application of trauma-informed care...
I think irrespective of the Hong Kong context it's a helpful perspective to have.

Congrats
I also wonder how much her biracialness plays into it, but she doesn't really have a very prototypical "Chinese" vibe, but as proximate to second-gen she is super relatable, including all the anime preferences...
"Chinese" as in China social media platforms.
Because she's technically Mandarin speaker, it's not a prominent thing for Hong Kongers either. I guess it's a thing for Taiwanese but we only have so many of them around these parts.
But there are so many similarities that we have with Bay Area...
I'm kind of upset at the lack of connection to Alysa Liu around these parts here in the Greater Toronto Area among the Chinese diaspora. I think for one, Chinese social media is either hugely suppressing of her or there's just a lack of interest. I asked a couple of kids and they also had no idea.
Literally just came across it now, this is like one of few videos of you being on video at all. Anyways appreciate your work, so many of us with our backgrounds have no idea about our histories as diaspora from Hong Kong and Christians. Keep safe out there.
Honestly I'm not as upset with Eileen Gu, her absentee father being one of those factors. I think she has it in her to do advocacy later on, at least that's what my gut tells me.
Seems like she also was diagnosed with ADHD during that stretch. It also explains why she's studying psychology now. She's more self-aware now and that's important. That's not something a Chna upbringing would have led her, ADHD would have been a death-sentence.
Fuller has undergone a lot of changes since they were there... But still significant...
That's not even the worst one...
One of the larger Canada-based Hong Konger YouTubers CanMen is promoting their video on their socials, the audacity to promote it with no regard for the anti-Indian racism.

Top of the video shows a cross, this location may be Christian
This shot shows a cross at the top of the video frame, makes me wonder if Christians are associated with these folks.
Mimicking Indian speech mannerisms
This is a euphemism for Indians
The anti-Indian content in question by this video
Yes it's deserving of sympathy but this is not okay
Hong Kongers not realizing that they are in a humanitarian scheme, Canada has no obligation to approve you in particular when things in the country are bad for everyone else too. The entitlement here.
What the hell is with this anti-Indian racism, this is why new Hong Kong immigrants are part of the problem

Steve Tsang gave this talk a couple of months ago.
Mostly knew what he was talking about, learned a thing or two as well.
Chineseness being a construct... It's not something I think about a lot but an important talk nonetheless.

First bad sleep day in 2026. Anxious about career prospects related to social service sector in Toronto, among other things.
Haven't been posting on socials much but the world seems to be struggling along. Feeling a bit burned out to end 2025.
Realized that you come from a relatively bougie background a while back, but you are using your privilege for good to be making a positive contribution imo...
We actively institutionalize the disabled to a significant extent
I didn't engage with the events this time around, I had that privilege and also didn't have the capacity this time around. Really appreciate your perspective.
This is a more academic talk by the former United Church of Canada moderator Carmen Lansdowne, on the launch of the book "Wearing a Broken Indigene Heart on the Sleeve of Christian Mission"

After the Scripture reading, the reverend who went to the stage immediately complemented the person who created the video and said, "that was a great song... "that was a great video."
This is just a case of Evangelicals using technology, but I really have second thoughts about this case.
When I was watching the video its original intended speed, I didn't notice so the distortions much. The video is intentionally sped up at points. At the end of the video the congregation is heard to be clapping. The video is followed by Scripture reading.
Original video of service here.
4:57 mark showing the AI-generated image depicting children in an in between frame. The text on the video says "intergeneration".
Another in between animation which goes from a photo of young children to older children, where the transition is of distorted the bodies of children being contorted and flying across the floor. You don't notice this at high speed so much but this is where the technology is right now.
3:53 mark of video showing congregants entering a worship service generated by AI-video generation, with visible distortions in the frame
These are in between frames between actual photos taken, but this is some dystopian looking stuff happening here when you can use AI-generation to drop "congregants" into a worship setting.
The video stars an AI actress, but why this specific portrayal of a human being fitting for this? An able-bodied and physically fit woman dressed in jeans and knit sweater?
The underlying song and lyrics are supposedly 100% human according to the description, but when there's so much here that's AI generated, it's really difficult to trust what exactly that 100% means. The degree to which this is theft and a misuse of environmental resources what I'm wondering about.
