Trying to get a few things buttoned up before the end of the year- new comic uploads (Starbreakers 3 and a little extra), new blog post, plus an overhaul to the gallery pages that's been a long time coming. I think once I get the cover for Starbreakers 3 done we'll be in business. Maybe end of Nov?

Emil, a character from the Nier series of games, runs past the camera with a cowboy hat, socks on his arms, and bright red shorts. It is a reference to a picture of the character Philippe from the comic Achewood, based on Philippe and Emil both being very special boys.
Been playing Nier: Automata.

The rest of the comic takes place in his thought balloon, where- in full colour- he is walking through the sand dunes of the distant world of Arrakis. He says the following: "Wwhatup, Youtube?! It's ya boy, Flyknife Comics, here with another classic prank! We took the eighteen youtubers with the highest follower counts and brought them here to Arrakis, just outside the former Harkonnen capitol of Carthag! If they can get to Arrakeen without getting caught by the most bloodthirsty Sardaukar that Salusa Secundus had to offer, they get a CHOAM directorship and their water-weight in spice! Let's check in!"
The first image is the artist, whose eyes are bugging out in shock at the sight of three Sardaukar terror troops standing around a burning heap of bodies, presumably the aforementioned Youtubers. The artist grabs the sides of his head and, panicking, yells "OHHHHHH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT." Suddenly, over a nearby dune, several officers of the New York Police Department, waving an American flag and trailed by helicopters, point at the panicking artist. "Look, it's the kidnapper!" they say. "Take him down!"
The artist turns and lifts a knife in a warrior salute as he activates his personal shield with his free hand. "BRING IT ON!" he yells, his eyes now the blue-within-blue Eyes of Ibad common to the Fremen in the Dune series of novels. "May thy PIG KNIVES chip and shatter!" The tail of the thought bubble leads back to the head of the cartoonist in reality, who still looks confused and tired. The words "Long Live The Cartoonists"- a reference to Dune's "Long Live The Fighters"- are written above the artist's signature.
Today was terrible comics day and I had mild sleep deprivation and heat exhaustion so what could I do except a nigh-incomprehensible riff on Dune.
A woman in a forest-green tunic with red accents and large pauldrons grins at the viewer. In one hand she's holding a reddish-pink handgun with a foregrip and a long barrel. She has reddish brown hair and several cat-adjacent features, like a bushy tail and paw-like feet. Next to her is text that reads as follows: Duchess Sivan Pardalis: the last surviving member of the Pardalis bloodline, one of the founding houses of the Second Carthagen Empire. She has long ago forsaken any claim to throne or fief, and instead travels the stars with her retinue of Claw Marines, seeking the destruction of the alien powers that helped to subvert and destroy her home. Her millennia-long vendetta with the fascist dictator Lady-Corvus Kubaryi Liyon has brought her into contact with the Zap Jockeys. Accomplished with both blade and carbine, she is a formidable ally- and a fearsome foe. Valiant Facts: - Ever since the fall of Carthagennon, she has kept a housecat or similar animal as a pet. In her life, she has had 43, 625 cats! - Once, she ate an entire watermelon- rind and all- just to prove a point! - Her personal record for one-armed push-ups is 1900! - She always hated the refined and luxurious food served at royal functions. Her favourite meal is deep-fried meat (any) with extra gravy and cherry soda! Beneath that is the logo for the Valiant Stars comic series.
Making sure I've locked in all the major character designs for Starbreakers 3; I usually start with the Zap Jockeys but they're pretty solidified by now so I decided to work from the newer characters first. What is Sivan's deal? Read Starbreakers 3 to find out!
The good part of AI is that the only thing a writer can do to combat it is to become more human. Make your writing weirder, hornier, more violent, absurd, poetic, difficult, political, jagged, dreamlike, ironic, surreal, alive. You don't have any choice but to plumb the depths.

Took a break from drawing my own blorbos today to draw @grahamite.bsky.social's blorbo, the Disco Bitch (careful following through to that profile, they got the spicy art). I love and respect both this character and Guitar Wolf and their hit 1999 film Wild Zero from which the quote originates.
For free I will give you that Calico Everson and Erasmus Blitzkrieg are straight cis dudes (one good guy and one bad guy, nice and balanced). For everyone else you must leverage your considerable powers of imagination. Activate your third eye. Sorry them's the rules.
Also just since it's in my mind right now for reasons, important Valiant Stars information is that none of the characters are cis or heterosexual unless made explicit in the text. Specificity is not always important for story so lots won't come up but you must have this in your brain while reading.
Took a little break from pencils to knock out another mini-based character- Coyote Smart. She scorns showers almost totally. Her girlfriend puts up with it for love. I knew a guy once who thought daily baths would destroy vital oils necessary for skin health, he wasn't as cool or gay as Coyote.
Some of you may be wondering "hey I don't recognize these characters- are they ALL going to show up in Starbreakers 3?" and the answer is that I at all times decline to explain myself. I weave a shimmering, ever-shifting web of bullshit and by seeing my drawings you're now stuck in it.
I do MEAN to have a more fulsome Bluesky presence but I mean, damn, y'know? Staying up to date on the internet is hard and exhausting. I post when I have stuff to post, ditto my site. If you don't hear anything from me for a while it's cuz I'm working.
Realized I didn't update here with the latest pirate character, Zorro Whitewine- his whole planet was destroyed and the psychic scream generated by that act of violence turned his body to star stuff and ensured that until vengeance is carried out, he cannot die (or sleep). Life is hard for him.

Weather's been too cruddy and cold for me to countenance the ~20 minute walk to the print shop to run off my roughs and start pencilling Starbreakers 3 so have another little pirate fella. Parrish isn't part of Kitty's crew, he's kinda got his own thing happening. All his clothes hate him.
