Good morning to everybody whoβs paying $4.95 or more for diesel fuel. Thatβs a 40% increase from less than two weeks ago.

I feel like Apple used to try to harmonize its its hardware and software with how people could most easily use it. I feel like the last couple of iterations have been moving further and further from that towards unasked for gadgets and features. They are just more intrusive and not better.
Itβs always Monday morning.
Diesel is up about a dollar- from mid $3βs to mid $4βs here on the ESVA. So, +~33% in the past week.
Add that cost to the fact that we are not selling soy beans to China anymore, and migrant labor at crab picking houses and chicken processing plants is sketchy, and our economy here is looking π
I donβt know the price of a barrel of oil. Itβs not something that I track in my day-to-day life. I do know that the cost of the diesel that I use to fuel. My truck has gone up by about 33% since Trump was elected.
In the late 70s through the late 80s I lived in a bedroom suburb of Washington DC in VA, and went to public middle and high school with the children of senators in congressional representatives of both parties.
I wonder how many senators and representative send their kids to public school now.
Right? Wasnβt most of the news out of Iran today how people in the capital couldnβt even breathe outside?
For what itβs worth I still havenβt forgiven tapper for a lot of his previous reporting over many years. But I do think that this question will actually help dems sharpen their responses to what will be entirely cynical and opportunistic attacks on dems. Murphy did great.
I think he has to ask it.
IMO Dems not funding DHS because of the deadly actions of ICE and CPB is 100% reasonable & itβs clear to me that MAGA will weaponize Trumpβs war of choice in Iran to push Dems for that funding.
Itβs good to get that cynical argument in the open now.
I feel itβs fair to ask Murphy the question given that itβs what all the opposition is going to yell anyway. Prefacing it by saying βwe have seen this movie beforeβ correctly sets it up as a predictable thing for them to do. I didnβt catch anything in his phrasing that indicated it was his opinion.
Yup

Didnβt we just go through a Touretteβs scandal?
And then you have all the folks who are doing oystering and crabbing and fishing. Theyβre all running diesel too.
Lots of corn and soy production here.
In the waning days of the Biden presidency, I could find diesel for $3.43 a gallon. Now it is $4.59 a gallon or more here on the very agricultural and very red Virginia Eastern shore.
This is a stupid take that tries to bluff on a losing hand.
Then again, if we all talk about the fact that we are at a heightened risk for some sort of asymmetric response on our own soil, then perhaps the next short step is more deployment of federal armed forces domestically. Which is Iβm sure what we all want. Damned either way I guess.
It seems pretty obvious and common sense that an attack on Iran would generate a response from it, its proxies, and its sympathizers. It almost needs to go without saying.
Why bother to suppress such an obvious thing?
I think DC should be divided into 535 quadrants and each assigned one congressional member, who will be responsible for ensuring that peopleβs trash and recycling is taken out on time and their sidewalks are cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours. The senators maintain the schools and parks.
Not clear to me once weβve already killed ppl in schools and hospitals what was previously off the table. Cemeteries maybe?
It is limited.
Limited by the imaginations of leaders in the various countries that are now or will become involved.
Yes! Kiggins election was such a disappointment after the good work by Luria on the J6 committee.
@samshirazi.bsky.social at 4pm today I was voter #171 in Accomack County. 172 and 3 were hot on my heals.
That reminds me, I can vote for this today!
Unequivocal nazi tattoo, sure. Ambiguous, notsomuch. Naziβs co-opted too many symbols.
But the lying about it in the context of military reenlistment pretty much seals the deal.
Iβve been pretty annoyed over hearing so much about this guy on Bluesky. Lots of heat, very little light.
But your posts provide context and I do very much appreciate that!
Iβm starting to worry that he does.
I first saw that term recently as well and, perhaps cause it was new to me (?), I read it US Asians. Which felt really wrong. Regardless of how one defines it, the term sort of seems inelegant.
