Someone on here yesterday pointed out that you can tell they didn’t see any of this coming because they would have done insider trades on the oil futures market if they had.

Worked at a engineering firm, and 1 year on International Women’s Day the old grumpy conservative Bulgarian guy sent a company-wide email saying:

β€œHappy IWD! In Socialist Bulgaria, this was one of the most important days in the calendar. Everyone celebrated the positive contributions of women”

After the β€œCanada is the 51st state” remarks. We should not be feeling any sense of security right now. We are the Austria of 2026.

My hottest mental health take:

A lot of depression and anxiety is situational, and warranted, because people live in shit circumstances. They’re poor, without resources, etc. and the reason it’s become popular to blame β€œmental health” is because it’s a way of evading responsibility.

If we want to improve at this then we need to be less insular and start looking abroad and working with other transit agencies outside the anglosphere because a lot of countries are doing it better than us and we always seem to bring in people from the UK, who are having the same problems as we are.

We’re also a very inexperienced transit building jurisdiction. The TTC had a lot of expertise in building transit but when that was taken over by the Province that institutional knowledge evaporated so we’ve been left with using consultants who generally don’t even really know how.

07.03.2026 22:21 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

We’ve actually gone to pretty huge extents to privatize what we can and it’s largely the reason our transit systems are getting worse. P3s are abundant in this province. They get bogged down by contractual disputes and contractors cut corners to make up losses. It’s a disaster of a system.

Look, our transit system is not perfect, but in what world would privatizing them make any difference? Public transit operates at a huge loss and if you increased fares to be profitable then you’d lose your ridership because you’d be charging $15 a ride.

This doesn’t even argue how it would help to privatize transit. His only point is that in Hong Kong 25% of the MTR is publicly traded and that they drive trains in London and Australia, which is not even privatization. The GO system operations are also contracted out which defeats his whole point.

Ah yes, nothing the private sector loves more than operating services at a huge loss

They make some really good flours now for gf pizza if you’re into making your own dough. Caputo is the ubiquitous one but there are others just as good. Alimentari on Roncesvalles sells a brand that’s good.

I did a similar trek in 2017. By Granada we were pretty run down so we went to these Arab baths and they were probably the highlight of the trip. Just stunning architecture and warm water.

Spanish PM Pedro SΓ‘nchez:

You may have heard that Spain is alone. They’re the same people who said that when we recognized the State of Palestine, and then others followed.

We are not alone β€” we are the first. Those who will end up alone are the ones defending the indefensible.

Man, these reputation washing opinion pieces from journalists that clearly know him personally really shines a light on why he made a lot of the decisions he made as mayor. Someone from the Toronto establishment always had his ear.

We ended up with John Tory last time we were afraid of another Mayor Ford and it was, predictably, the same austerity, only polite.

For the love of Toronto, can we PLEASE have some REAL, imaginative challengers and a REAL election about issues and making this a decent place for people to live? 😭😭😭

This isn’t a uniquely American problem. This is the entire theory behind neoliberalism. Make life hard so people can’t create community so that they’re easy to exploit for monetary gain. They call it β€œcompetition”.

Turkey and Brazil are easy to see (ie. Erdogan, Bolsonaro). But Greece is interesting. I’m even pretty surprised by France

Remind me: when you bomb an elementary school, lure the survivors into a false sense of safety, and then bomb the survivors, leaving behind dozens and dozens of dead school children... are you the good guys?
