1/ In April 2024, a routine lab isolate of Salmonella Typhi showed phenotypic resistance to ceftriaxone, a key antibiotic for treating typhoid. By September, 47 similar cases had been identified across Bangladesh, and resistance had risen to 5%.
I'm super happy to share this preprint on βDistribution of capsule and O types in #Klebsiella pneumoniae causing neonatal sepsis in Africa and South Asia: meta-analysis of genome-predicted serotype prevalence and potential vaccine coverageβ

One ceftriaxone-resistant #typhoid case last year set us on a path that is now live on Emerging Infectious Diseases.
47 cases in months, resistance rose from 0 to 5%. We spoke with patients, sequenced samples. 4.3.1.2.B1 lineage+blaCTX-M-15 on pCROB1. #AMR #PublicHealth

When people ask me what we need the most for typhoid treatment, I always say a rapid diagnostic to accurately detect typhoid/paratyphoid. This truly could be a game changer if we can adopt it in clinical practice in LMICs. Great work from colleagues at @chrfbd.bsky.social and collaborators!!
Had the amazing opportunity to present our work at HCA Asia. RSV infections are a major health burden amongst children in Bangladesh and we aim to learn about the pathophysiology of RSV infections using single cell sequencing. Stay tuned for more insights from our work!
My heart swells with pride every time I realise that Bangladesh is generating its own single cell data @chrfbd.bsky.social !! Excellent presentation by @yogihooda.bsky.social at the #HCAAsia2024 meeting describing the changes in the nasal mucosa during #RSV infections!

Dr. Senjuti Saha recently took the stage at Cambridge University to share insights on the growing crisis of neonatal infections and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Bangladesh. She discussed how CHRFβs invasive bacterial disease surveillance is revealing crucial data on Klebsiella pneumoniae. (1/4)
Want to thank Ramanujan Hegde, Radu Aricescu, Andrija Sente and Ryan Judy at the MRC-LMB for making this work possible. #Postdoc #MRC-LMB (5/5)
Our study provides a rare glimpse into membrane protein assembly, revealing NACHO as a potential chaperone for pentameric ion channels, maintaining ion channel integrity and function, crucial for efficient signal transmission. (4/5)
Using cryo-EM, we visualized an intermediate assembly structure with NACHO interacting with GABA A receptor subunits. NACHO selectively shields regions prone to misfolding, enhancing stability and guiding the precise arrangement of the receptorβs components. (3/5)
We identify how NACHO interacts with unassembled GABA A receptor Ξ±1 subunits, binding at specific sites to shield immature, sensitive surfaces on these proteins as they fold and assembly in the ER. (2/5)
Excited to share our preprint on characterizing NACHO, a ER-resident membrane protein that plays an essential role in assembling pentameric ion channels, like GABA and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in our brains. #IonChannels #Neuroscience (1/5) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
We analyzed more than 500 isolates and uncovered almost a 109 distinct genetic types, highlighting the genetic variation of Klebsiella. This research highlights the urgent need for better solutionsβlike new polyvalent vaccinesβto reduce the burden of these infectionsβand save more lives. (3/3)
Klebsiella infections are becoming more frequent and severe. Adding to the concern is the increase in carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella strains, which are harder to treat and linked to higher death rates, although resistance alone doesnβt appear to fully explain the trend. (2/3)
Recently, I got an opportunity to present 18 years of impactful research from CHRF in Bangladesh at the 2024 Klebsiella Epidemiology and Biology Symposium in Parisβthe first-ever event dedicated to this infection. (1/3)
