This month, we recognize the ongoing fight for justice and equality, because Women’s History Month isn't just about the past—it’s about learning from it, celebrating it, and making more of it.

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher Votes Against DHS Funding Bill That Fails To Address Lawlessness of ICE, CBP

Today, I voted against funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which falls far short of addressing Americans’ legitimate concerns about the Trump administration’s increasing lawlessness and brutality.

Trump on lack of evacuation plan for Americans in Middle East: "It all happened very quickly" President Trump said Tuesday about Iran, "I thought we were going to have a situation where we were going to be attacked." Mr. Trump said there wasn't an evacuation plan for Americans abroad because "...

Americans are stranded around the world because the president FAILED to PLAN.

This is unconscionable because this is a WAR of CHOICE.

It is clear that the Trump administration has no coherent plan to evacuate Americans stranded in the Middle East. I joined my colleagues in calling on the State Department to use all available resources to help affected Americans return home safely and quickly.

It’s an absolute dereliction of duty that the Trump Administration didn’t have a plan in place to get Americans out of danger.

Energy Hearing on Pipeline Safety
Energy Hearing on Pipeline Safety YouTube video by Energy & Commerce Democrats

In today's @energycommerce.bsky.social hearing, we're discussing what the future holds for the Pipelines & Hazardous Safety Administration. It's critical that the U.S.—led by minds like those in #TX07— maintain its R&D leadership in this key energy sector. Tune in now—I'm about to ask my questions.

This is the current guidance from the State Department. It is insufficient and I will demand better, but I will continue to share the guidance for all those concerned about Americans in the region.

I am heartbroken by the senseless mass shooting in downtown Austin. No one should fear facing violence on a night out. I am grateful for the first responders who acted swiftly, and my heart is with the victims, the survivors, and all those whose lives have been shattered by this tragedy. (1/2)

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher on U.S. Attack on Iran

Houston, TX—Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement after the United States and Israel attacked Iran, and President Trump called for change in Iran’s government:

“Today, President Trump announced that he has taken unilateral action to start a war with Iran without authorization from Congress—the representatives of the people—that threatens to put the United States into another prolonged war at great cost to the American people. It is the latest action in a series of a reckless abuses of power that has become the defining characteristic of this President and his presidency. President Trump, without congressional authorization or a clear mission with defined objectives, has chosen escalation over diplomacy, putting our service members, U.S. interests, and regional stability at risk.

“The Constitution grants the Congress the sole authority and the solemn responsibility to declare war for good reason. It is the most serious and consequential decision a people can make—and it is the decision of the people, not the President.

“Speaker Johnson must reconvene the House immediately, the administration must brief the full Congress, and the Congress must vote on the pending resolution to remove U.S. forces from hostilities in Iran without congressional authorization. I intend to vote in favor of this resolution.

“Our men and women in uniform deserve better from our country’s leaders than unilateral, unconstitutional action. We owe it to them and their families to ensure that we do not repeat mistakes of the past. I am praying for their safety and for the safety of all civilians who are now in harm’s way.”

New study finds over 90% of hair extensions tested contain harmful chemicals A new study by Silent Spring Institute shows that hair extensions contain more harmful chemicals than experts previously thought.

This is so not ok. It's is why I introduced the Toxic Free Beauty Act with @schakowsky.house.gov and others. It's time to end the use of these harmful chemicals in beauty products.

Several people have noticed that I have been voting no on bills brought to the House floor under suspension of the rules this year. Why? I have shared elsewhere that, to the extent that these kinds of bills suggest that Congress is working & functioning as it should, I am using my no vote to make clear that this Congress is failing to perform its most essential function: preserving and protecting the people of this country and our sacred Constitution.

Russia thought it would take days to seize Ukraine. 4 years later, war is still raging Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine four years ago, and the fighting continues. Here's a look at where the war stands today.

Four years ago, Russia launched its unprovoked, unjustified, and unconscionable invasion of Ukraine.

Today, Ukraine still stands. We must continue to support them as they fight for their sovereignty and for our shared democratic values.

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher to Host Listening Session on the Real State of the Union

I have not missed a State of the Union address since I have been elected to Congress.
This year, however, is not like any other.
Over the last year, President Trump has ignored, defied, and dismissed the Congress, the courts, and the Constitution, doing real and lasting harm to the people and the principles of the United States of America.
I expect this year’s address to continue the dangerous and divisive dishonesty that has become part and parcel of this administration.
Instead of listening to lies about and insults to the American people, I plan to listen to the people: Houstonians and Texans who will share their perspective on the real state of the union.
In this historic moment, it is the people of this country who must come together and chart our path forward with vision and patriotism. I am proud to represent them, and grateful for the opportunity to spend the evening hearing from them.

Texan shot dead by ICE agent months before killings in Minneapolis, records show The involvement of federal immigration agents in the fatal shooting of Ruben Ray Martinez on South Padre Island in March had not been disclosed in initial reports.

Three months into President Trump’s mass deportation undertaking, an ICE officer shot and killed a U.S. citizen in South Padre Island, long before immigration agents killed another American in Minnesota that prompted outrage across the nation.

This President's Day week is a good time to remember that this is not how it works.

Congress makes the laws, not the President. And this law creates all kinds of problems, making it harder for citizens to vote, especially women. (2/2)
