No comment on the phrasing at all... Folks, that's how you know Sam is a proper cocktail geek

In all seriousness, I also owe you for turning us on to Houston wine merchant in general!

I think that was from some episode of Bill Moyers journal circa 2007, but I'm really not sure of the exact source. The quote just really stuck with me.

Opinion | Politicians Are Trying to Control the News

I know there's a lot going on, but control of the media is an incredibly important topic. To quote some interview I vaguely remember: "whatever your top issue is, this should be your second... They don't tell you what to think, but they tell you what to think about" www.nytimes.com/2026/03/05/o...

This is why I generally don't like C++ development. It's not the language. I mostly like the language. But I find boost and a few other widely used libs hard to understand and really easy to misuse. It's not all bad, but I struggle with it.

And yes, there are other salt basins in Utah. E.g. the Paradox. Those don't have large autochthonous salt domes suitable for storage (please prove me wrong there). The only one in Utah, so far as I know, is the ~Miocene one around Delta.

Also, while we're at it, the salt is not from the time of the dinosaurs. It's much younger. It's not a remnant of an ancient ocean. It's essentially from an earlier version of the great salt lake.

There's only one known salt dome in Utah. And it doesn't work for this.

Did anyone think to do any research at all for this? These are solution mined caverns. The only entrance is a small pipe. How would you get nuclear waste (most of which is low grade and in large barrels) into the pipe?

Storage in conventional salt mines is feasible. But those don't exist here.

I’m curious if the U.S. is going to exercise shutter control on commercial satellite imagery providers for this.

Supreme Court rejects Legislature’s last-ditch bid to undo Utah’s new congressional map The Utah Supreme Court rejected the Legislature’s last-ditch bid to undo the state's new congressional maps. The justices said that the Legislature failed to file an appropriate appeal in a timely manner.

After the Utah Supreme Court’s rejection, the 2026 election will proceed β€” barring a last-minute intervention by the federal courts or other unforeseen events β€” with the map selected by 3rd District Judge Dianna Gibson.

Pop star Bad Bunny needed a Puerto Rican history scholar. UW–Madison had just the one. Bad Bunny collaborated with UW–Madison history professor Jorell MelΓ©ndez-Badillo on Puerto Rican narratives that accompany the new album β€œDeBÍ TiRAR MΓ‘S FOToS.”

Pretty sure one was consulted, definitely was for the album
