Sigh, of course you are right. Definitive only to this moment!
Definitive summary from @profsaunders.bsky.social of the infuriating and tragic destruction of Americaβs global role & powers by the Trump Admin, and its impact on the world in this terribly fraught time. π

The global political order is in a moment of profound change--how might it be reshaping the EU? Looking forward to discussing my recent JEI article (link in comments below) on the EU's security turn at the LSE on Tuesday, March 10 at 12:15. RSVP (in person or Zoom): www.lse.ac.uk/european-ins... 1/
After months of wrangling and an epic list of delays, the Commission has finally released its Industrial Accelerator Act.
This could turn into one of the EUβs most consequential industrial policy files in years - and the proposal is honestly not a bad place to start.
Some quick thoughts:
π¨π¨Symbolically important that EU countries and EU institutions shore up support for #spain in the context of fear of trade retaliation from the #Trump regime. This should be self-evident but unity of EU here is under pressure. π§΅

*colleagues* :)
To all those colleague who told me repeatedly over the past year that Europe would never, ever move towards any sort of stand-alone military alliance or nuclear capacity--a reminder that we all need to unleash our political imaginations to even begin to grasp the world we live in today.
China automates while America hesitates. I have a piece in the NYT today arguing that America's strategy to compete with China in manufacturing is fundamentally misconceived β and that we're heading toward a reckoning we're not prepared for. 1/

A few more thoughts. USFP/natsec usually works from bottom up, even for prez-directed policies. Bureaucrats, mid-levels, political appointees work the problem, then top people bless it. Diplomacy (JCPOA) works like this. Military planning can move faster w/ prior plans, but similar. 1/
Quick reactions after learning that no, nobody could stop him. 1/ goodauthority.org/news/trump-m... 1/
Time to follow the amazing @proftalmadge.bsky.social for thoughtful, well-informed analysis of global security & nuclear issues, especially when bombs start to fall. π

We might attack Iran because _________.
My new piece on @goodauth.bsky.social: Can anyone stop Trump from going to war with Iran?
Spoiler alert: almost certainly no.

Preaching to the choir here, brother. My book, The Currency of Ideas, made me very big in Sweden back in the day. π But fascinating to see how the nature of the political concerns are changing with the changing security landscape. www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9780801...
Geopolitics FTW! Enjoyed talking to @marketplace.org about Swedenβs new interest in joining the euro. Spoiler alert: its not just about the economics this time around. www.marketplace.org/story/2026/0...
The always brilliant @nikhil-kalyanpur.bsky.social on why the NFL platformed Bad Bunny--with a side of Hobson/Lenin's imperialism! Great stuff & also explains F1's stunning recent success at building a US audience. His substack is π₯.
Important and really, really disturbing post about the manufacturing of consent for the American surveillance state.
π¨ The political economy of finance summer school is back, 3rd year running! Better still: We're bringing it to London via @lse-ei.bsky.social.

Looked over on the other site to see which of the extraordinary journalists I admire have been laid off at WaPo (answer: most of them). Such a tragic day for democracy & for my hometown. BUT the vitriol and (a lot of bot-generated) hatred in the comments is incredible. Glad to have left that behind.
the judge put liam's picture in the court order for his release. say what you will about the decision to include the bible verses here, but jesus isn't the only one who wept.

π¨"A Market for War? The Reinforcing Logics of Europe's Security Turn" is out! What history tells us about the EU's likely political path given today's geopolitics & the emerging European military-industrial complex--& why the EU's new security role urgently requires better democratic accountability.
Feels like something cracked today in the transatlantic alliance. Europeans have been swallowing their pride, bitting their tongues, and bending the knee. That strategy may have bought them time but it has now clearly failed. It also had a major cost - it has made the WH think Europe will cave. 1/
There is a growing network of faith communities across the US who are organizing & speaking out against the Trump administration's use of government powers for cruelty and repression. Tender green shoots of civil society resistance, but important ones.
Great conversation w/Michael Schaffer @politico.com on upheaval in global politics/what a neo-royalist world order might look like. Hint: bleak. But it is not yet consolidated. Time to crawl out of our fetal positions (@segoddard.bsky.social) and map alternatives.

βThis is not a world of sovereign equality or of balancing against China. It is about extraction.β @abenewman.bsky.social on how to understand Trumpβs neo-royalist reign of cruelty, coercion, & rent-seeking gone wildβnone of which will end well for America or the world.
This Time Is Not Different (except there are even less competent people in charge, the international order is dead, and we have the foreign policy of a personalist dictatorship).

I've been browsing the 'Posts' tab of this pack quite a bit lately β it might come in handy. It's by no means exhaustive, but as a bonus: it's gender balanced.
