As usual, it’s not the sermon I thought I was going to preach before Sunday morning! 😂

I accidentally did that in a few spots in a funeral bulletin once. I caught it and fixed it verbally, but the intercession sure prayed for “[Ralph], our sister.” The widow laughed, do I suppose it was okay to posthumously force-femme her husband.

I am used to receiving bills from the hospital, but today I inexplicably received a check them. I really have no clue why they sent me a check, but I’m not inclined to ask too many questions!

Rhubarb decided we were both going to wake up at 5:30 this morning. The weather was mild and the sunrise was lovely, so we went for a walk around our little town. I think I’m a morning person now?

The more I do premarital counseling in the regular course of parish ministry, the more I realize how much I really love it. It’s really such an honor to witness a couple in the throes of wedding planning make time to radically and yet also tenderly perlustrate basically every aspect of their lives.🕯️

Our campus ministry team met tonight and the students decided that the check in question would be to name their favorite word or phrase from any of the orthodox creeds. During the meeting we planned an Ascension Day picnic table mass and bonfire. The young people are alright, folks. 🕯️

Your instinct is absolutely right! Pray for them, but be careful about letting their voices influence you, especially if they’re retired. There are far too many priests who moan and complain about the church/priesthood but are very happy to take in their church pension while doing so!

I put together a piece of IKEA furniture today with my dad. I was on Team Let’s Follow The Instructions and he was on Team As Long As All The Things Get Done The Order Doesn’t Matter. Care to guess which team was right in the end?!

51 students at our Ash Wednesday Mass at Carleton, which is great considering it was snowing hard; I stayed after teaching students how to do thurible tricks; a group of Muslim students passed me on the way out of the chapel and wished me a good Lent and I wished them a gentle fast. All is gift. 🕯️

I think we have only had one non-snowy Ash Wednesday in the four Ash Wednesdays I’ve been at All Saints!
