I’ll be curious to see some of the other horror hosts as the month goes on. For now, I’m left appreciating what the MST3K folks achieved, it’s a whole other level of skit hosting #horrorwatch

Well, not the zombie poodles. They can only be destroyed in a fiery inferno that matches the fires of Mount Doom where they were forged #horrorwatch

I’ve been to pretentious video “art installations” that were faster paced than this movie #horrorwatch

We don’t send @pauljessup.com little handwritten notes and gifts, what a bunch of #horrorwatch slackers we are! 😆

With actual whips as a component of the soundtrack orchestra! #horrorwatch

This was the first time in my life that I experienced a sensation of a burning smell, just from something I watched on a screen 😳 #horrorwatch

No, it’s always different, but they reuse a lot of the same actors from season to season, which has a very creepy effect. I’ve only seen a few seasons of it. #horrorwatch

I wonder if this influenced the design of American Horror Story #horrorwatch

This is really disturbing subject matter for something that would have aired on ABC in 1975 #horrorwatch

I was puzzled in the final 40 minutes (?!) or so by the absence of dialogue—did the screenwriter fall ill or quit? It was a dialogue-heavy Vincent Price showcase (O, unfortunate cabbage!) and then it was a very long pyromaniac dream sequence #horrorwatch

It’s been a long time since I read the Poe story, which I really liked, but I feel like this screenplay adds a lot and is quite interestingly weird in its own right #horror-watch

BTW Chapter 8 also talks a bit about the problem of expressing your quirky, not-very-popular interest in a way that will nevertheless hold academic readers’ attention and respect (hopefully). I struggled with my own version of this problem myself for years.

Skipping to Chapter Five may help. You can always backtrack later, but grappling with feeling too near, or in your case, too far from the academic conversations is the great preoccupation of that chapter. I’m curious how you’ll feel as you go deeper into the book, fingers crossed you will. ☺️

In the 1990s we used to hate “Clippy,” Microsoft’s creepy pop-up digital assistant (“I see you’re trying to set up a spreadsheet. Want some help?”) but that just might be a kind of simple AI I could get behind

Sorry to hear—I had a similar experience, kinda blamed it on (my) operator error, but I think you’re right, smart TVs that turn out to be not so smart is a form of planned obsolescence

Was thinking that, but if this is based (however faintly) on a story by Golgol, then Bram Stoker in the 1890s could have lifted the coachman from him! #horrorwatch

You need to patiently explain to your sister-in-law that in the old days, studios had to execute an actual witch and then marinate her for centuries to achieve that effect #horrowatch

I think I first came across this kind of soundtrack watching hand-to-hand combat scenes in Star Trek: TOS. Although rn it’s channeling Lizst or something #horrorwatch
