If you need a brief respite from the fascist hellscape that surrounds us currently, might I suggest some of these whimsical worlds?
Where fireflies mean magic, mythology comes to life, and doors transport you to new realitiesβ¨οΈ

The cognitive dissonance of witnessing fascism in real time, trying to fight it locally, and also needing to decide what my daughter is going to have for her bento for school today is damn near driving me insane.
Thank god for books and book content. Truly the only time I can take a deep breath.
Time for the annual Booktube tradition...complaining about the books I read π

Correction, apologies! 230 pm Eastern is the time for the live!

Thank you so much Krystle π₯Ή
It's been a point of discourse for about a year now but it feels like a lot of discussions don't take the next step to talk about the root cause or what we can do about it...so I hope I can offer a few of those here :)
Oh yay!! I hope it gives you some food for thought π
Over consumption, Anti-intellectualism, Trope-ification, Shallow reviews....all of these have been plaguing the book community recently.
What if I told you that WE are the problem?
The good news is that means that WE can also fix it β¨οΈ

I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic here or in the comments on this video!
We had some really good discussions when this was first released. 𧡠5/5
youtu.be/Rm8uomoTsHU
The last time we had this discourse, this video (π in next section) was my contribution to the topic, & I think it's still very relevant. I'd like to postulate that what you choose to read DOES matter, but not for the way others will perceive you. It matters because of what it can do for YOU. 𧡠4/5
While this is a beautiful thing, reading publicly online is extremely different from reading privately. The Observer Effect is in full force: just the act of being perceived changes the thing itself. It adds a new perspective to this (usually) private hobby, & it takes some getting used to. 𧡠3/5
I feel like the community goes through this discourse in waves every few years, but this round seems particularly far-reaching; probably because so many more people are reading and, as a result, there are many new voices in the online book space. 𧡠2/5
Recently, I've been seeing a lot of discourse about peoples' reading choices.
Pressure to read certain things or read quickly, criticism of both engaging and not engaging critically with what you read, and do our reading choices really matter at all? What is the point of this hobby of ours? 𧡠1/5
Today we're reviewing Brigands and Breadknives, another heartwarming (if decidedly more action-packed) adventure, this time featuring a scene-stealing chaos goblin.
Thanks @torbooks.bsky.social for the ARC!
Was lisening to some old Dessa yesterday & this hook seemed exceptionally pertinent:
"I found your pale-faced blue-lipped God beneath the kitchen table. Starving and eating paper. He showed me what you wrote and what you'd asked. Love, nothing can live on prayers like that."
- Doomtree, The Wren
I need your advice on which unread books to prioritize in Unboxing my Library pt.3 ππ
