Feels like every multiplayer video game is now an evolution of those packed in multiplayer modes you'd get as side content in Dead Space 2 or whatever but now it's $40 and will kill whatever company that made it if it doesn't generate a million dollars in a week.

Related to Marathon but when did we just stop making multiplayer games with more than a single mode or a modified mode with more or less people and one gameplay element changed? Why is everything like SINGLE GAME MODE the video game now in multiplayer spaces? That seems dumb and short sighted.

Gameplay wise it's fun. It's got a good mix of PvE and PvP at the same time. The enemy players don't seem to be too plentiful, so it gives you some leeway. I just wish the PvP/invasion mode with like a setting or something. Idk. I'm an old man, I suck at games, I just wanna play Marathon.

I REALLY hate the new era of FOMO based video games. I actually DON'T want to live in a "living breathing world that changes with time" because I want to experience the story at my own pace. I hate the idea that 10 years from now Marathon lore is gonna be tied to some shit you missed in this game.

All I can hope is that this is successful enough that down the line they do a proper Marathon because the elements are there. The lore, interacting with the world to progress a meta-narrative, story hidden on logs you unlock, all of that is great. I just hate that I need to play it online.

Playing some Marathon offline still but I'm going to be real. This should be the multiplayer component to a single player game. There is not a single element of this experience that demands it be multiplayer. It's got bits of lore, it's got a good feel, a good world, why did they make it like this.

They gutted the entire value menu, got rid of almost every item that ruled from it. Stacker, stacked taco, the beefy burrito, all wiped out. Tragic. They even got rid of the cheap $3 nachos. Whole world is fucked.
