Yeah and bigger - this wasn't necessary or whatever. This is Trump Trumping, and yes it's an acute crisis but the chronic crisis is Trumpofascism. I mean who thinks this is the apex? Ok let's pull out all the stops to deal with Hormuz, but the fucking cause stays in place, let's deal with that?

It's a sign of the times that AI companies are deciding whether or not to allow the military to engage in mass surveillance of US citizens and this is treated as a legitimate debate of two reasonable positions.

That congress was packed with on-the-record insurrectionists throughout the Dem term, in direct contravention of the US constitution. That everyone wanted it to be someone else's problem. That they showed *they could not or would not stop the fascists*. So, then what?

My unpopular opinion is that the election wasn't the point. The point was failing (kinda deliberately?) to prosecute and punish the coup guy and his crew for their treason, showing that going fascist has no cost.Trump treated as a legitimate contender, not a natsec issue, was the core failure.

Youβd think this would be a totally humiliating, career-ending reality check for the cheerleaders of pro-MAGA politicians and media in the UK.
βOh dear, ladsβ¦ no denying we backed the wrong horse here.β
But no. On they cheer, as the whole country shakes its head in despair.

it really is just stunningly on the nose that the opening salvo to Trumpβs supposed war
of liberation in Iran began with bombing a girlβs school.
if you put that in fiction people would dismiss it as being too maudlin and heavy-handed, and yet this kind of thing just keeps actually happening.

There is only one form of Trumpofascism which works out ok for the world, and that is a deposed form. We've wasted >a year desperately hoping otherwise and avoiding risk, thereby enabling it to grow and consolidate. We are failing this challenge and the result will be catastrophic

As someone who routinely mocks permabullish clickbait oil forecasts, I want to be exceptionally clear:
Crude WILL go to $200/bbl, en route higher, unless traffic through the Strait resumes.
Not clickbait, but rather brutal physics and necessary economic incentives.

America has a long history of pointless and wasteful military adventurism. And in our quest to normalize Trump weβve stuck his Iran war in that box: βanother war, just like the rest.β Itβs not like the rest. Itβs an act of insanity, rogue state behavior. Donβt know how this ends until we admit it.

Itβs lunacy, madman stuff. Weβre just going around killing whoever we feel like, with zero regard for the law OR the consequences! If any other country were doing it our political class would say, probably rightfully, that there was an urgent necessity for their leaders to eat a cruise missile.

Nagging thought... Can't help feeling the burden of proof is being reversed here. When someone says x might be conscious, if there is not a non-cryptic answer to the Q 'what is conscious?' is difficult then we seem to be in woo territory.
