This made me chuckle. That dog definitely merits an orchestra seat (though not quite sure which section!) youtube.com/shorts/oG0zK...

Think it's a fascinating line-up. They'll all bring something different to the role, and liking Sam Ryder as JC. He's already got the look!
Really liking the line up on this. Interested to see Julian Clary's King Herod! Think SRB will be good
That looks slightly sinister!
Fun evening of Berlin cabaret with Ute Lemper. Oh, those cabaret composers were good. Love Kurt Weill, and it was very touching to hear some Viktor Ullmann. Good to catch up with @ethelcrimble.bsky.social too
Just a shame about the staff redundancies not long after opening. Very sad. The outside space higher up the building are lovely.
Visited soon after it was first opened, beautiful building. I like the wedding cake effect :-D
And Joseph is the other black lab according to the article (biblical labradors!!)
I knew they had 2 boys. Worryingly, for a dog lover, I wasn't aware of their Canine family.
Aw, isn't that lovely? And just look at all those books!

Just spotted the Red Arrows flying nearby. Know they're normally based in Cyprus for training, so guess they're heading home at least for now.
Quite agree. He did a wonderful job on it. Everything about that series was great from the script to the Romanian folk inspired score to the ensemble cast, and the locations.
I absolutely love these 2 sets of trilogies, they are wonderful. Excellent BBC adaptation back in the day too with a very young Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson
Very sad news for staff, and all the small investors

...And then there's the chap who accidentally started the running machine while still stretching. He can hop EXTREMELY fast! :-D
All life is at the gym, not least fashion wise. Youngsters wearing the latest gym fashion, me in my old Children in need T-shirt, and an older lady wearing her pearls...
The Bomber command museum just on the outskirts is excellent.
I think Lincoln has a really good prison museum too (apologies can't remember if this is part of the castle). There's also an excellent antiquarian bookshop on the steep hill running down from the cathedral
Reading A handful of dust, there's mention of a family pew with a fireplace in the village church. In all my years wandering round churches I've never seen a pew with a fireplace. Has anyone seen one? And if so, where?
Every St. David's Day, at my Junior school in S Wales, we would dress up and folk dance in the main street of our valley village. I don't know of anywhere else that did this. It was extraordinary, and on 1st March I always remember it. Happy St. David's Day.
The first one turned up promptly on my birthday. Eek!
No dodgy AI Goth chicks for me, but as soon as you reach your 60th birthday there's a barrage of funeral plans!
...just outside Berlin in Babelsberg in 1924-1925. Am guessing he may have spent a night at the opera and wasn't just inspired by the later book...
I've been revisiting Die tote stadt, Korngold's beautiful opera. I knew that it was based on the same novel that inspired the book that inspired Hitchcock's Vertigo. Thinking of this I did a quick date check. Tote Stadt was premiered in Berlin in 1924, and Hitchcock was working for UFA...
And Korngold's wonderful improvisation on the aria, recorded in one take. What a composer, what a pianist.

Korngold at his sublime best. The costumes are nutty, but, Stephan Genz, what a voice.

I've just completely missed any concert dates before now. Aw, that's a shame for you. It is just that little bit too far, isn't it, unless you're going to holiday there :-(
It was such a bit of luck spotting the ad for Ute Lemper today when I was at work, and then realising that Ibrahim Malouf was at the same local venue in the summer. Thrilled to get tickets for both.
Hoorah! Booked to see Ute Lemper, and Ibrahim Malouf, two of my favourite artists. Looking forward to this. This is going to be fun @ethelcrimble.bsky.social
It's the third in the Rotters Club series - The Rotters Club, The closed circle come before it. You can read it out of order but Rotters Club is brilliant
I do love Jonathan Coe. No author makes me laugh out loud quite as much as he does.
