may we all be remembered so. well, those of us who are men anyhow.
this is the day after Dred Scott. we've had bad Supreme Courts before, I suppose.

I remained at Ails till afternoon when I went via A. Osborn's to Epenetus Smith's. Lodged there. He was one of the good men.

The George Clooney SOLARIS movie was very boring. I still have not seen the Russian one but I hear it was better.

Speaking of the best films of 1981, this and the book it is based on are like Twilight but good.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raiders... well I have it easy, so I'll add

see you can do a space Western and not make it weird.
some say that
At least one old Trek EU author had the idea that humans are diverse because we avoided the apocalyptic race wars that happened on most other planets, to which I say yikes!
Thatβs what the Pope has been trying to tell us this whole time!
you could be a little mean and say "in the Trek future, we have surpassed religion, specifically the Southern Baptist church Gene Roddenberry's parents took him to in Depression-era Los Angeles, all the other religions are doing fine."
It's interesting how the politics of religion work in Star Trek, in that we've seen people who are at least culturally Muslim and there are some very strong hints (canonized by the EU) that Jewish people are still around, but the closest we get to Christianity is that great weird Roman episode.
well some people are, sez Spock, but I take your point!
(of course, we're all really whistling past that Earth and other Fed societies solved any fertility problems the way they solved their economic and environmental problems - space maaagic.)
Need more Regency romances about characters who crush it at the βTon.
There seem to be a lot of people relatively healthy and vital into old age - and we know several women seem to have had kids much later than they would today. (Picard-era Crusher, Keikoβs mother being 100, etc)
One of the older novels had the idea that the mini skirts and gogo boots of Kirkβs enterprise are a product of the 23rd century throwing off the more conservative era that proceeded it.
Yes, definitely.
heck we know she's a series, she could literally be the star!
keep it even simpler - have her win in 1990 and then picked by Clinton as VP. (He had women on his short-list even in OTL, and the leading face of female Democracy is going to be a good choice to deal with any questions about you-know-what with you-know-who.)
another is the week in 1945 where Henry Morgenthau was next in the line of succession if something happens to Truman
sure - the present discourse is bad. I'm just trying to think of how it might have happened before our current time.
with VP Stacey Abrams
not impossible certainly! don't like that thought but not the worst plausible outcome of 2020 I guess!
the Mormon-Jewish ticket is going to make the Huckabee wing have some kind of reaction. I don't know what, but definitely a reaction.
she was on Mondale's short list in 1984 but good luck there I guess
my favorite wild card is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Kra... - a far-right Republican from Colorado (imagine that) who was almost elected Senator in 1986. seems as plausible as Quayle was for HW in 1988!
hm! a large number of Protestants who voted Nixon they got the sweats over the thought of a Catholic POTUS! (1960 really should not have been so close, after recent recessions.) I don't know how that particular culture war would break out if Nixon has a Jewish VP but it's interesting to contemplate
VP is the most likely route because any vaguely presentable sucker can become VP, as we have learned recently.
Hmm. A tough one, since "rich Protestant liberal Republican from New York" could barely make it to VP in his lifetime - never mind Jewish.
If JL and BS are 1 and 2 (in whatever order you want to put them in) - who's 3?
Here's a thought -
The two most likely Jewish men to become POTUS of the United States before 2026 were Joe Lieberman (if Gore dies as POTUS, perhaps during a 9/11 that still happens) and Bernie Sanders (I don't think he'd have won in 2016 or 2020 but it's literally impossible to say, so maybe!)
lot going on here, as the saying goes
