Met a guy in the pub tonight who recognised me from playing in Ireland’s leading Guided By Voices tribute band and now I totally want to get that shit going again.

Seeing a bunch of people reacting to news of Microsoft's latest bullshit by saying that they're considering a move to Linux but find it intimidating. And honestly, your day to day experience of using a distro like Linux Mint or Ubuntu will basically be the same as using, like, Windows 7.

Is it by Peter Byrne by any chance?

He was also fond of referring to Phil Lynott - who he met in the 60s during a brief stint working in the record industry - as β€œthat gurrier from Crumlin”.

He’s such an arse. To be fair though, I do remember in 1977 my late father - who was not an arse - giving out about the amount of news time being given over to the passing of a guy who was β€œjust a bloody singer”. This was Elvis Presley.

Koffi Olomide album

Koffi Olomide album

This album was pretty much the soundtrack to a summer I spent in East Africa a long time ago so I’m checking out Discogs to see if I can score a vinyl copy. Enjoying the reviews (1/3)

I prompted co-pilot to write a position statement on AI use in an Irish University; see does it look familiar to you.

It seems to be getting worse and worse. I hardly leave the house anymore (on foot, bike or car) without seeing a driver speeding, breaking a red light or doing some other stupid, dangerous shit within about five minutes.

Thanks. Sorted now though.

Absolutely my favourite Irish band of that time. Still listen to their records all the time.

Are we still actively using it?

Note to Irish musical artists. Please stop doing the slow droney thing. It’s beyond boring at this stage.

Yeah. You got a problem? Take it to the tsunami!

16.02.2026 20:19 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Surely this is wrong anyway. Is a hotel directly responsible if a tsunami destroys it in the middle of someone’s holiday?

16.02.2026 17:53 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Wow. I suppose this is one of the problems when you start treating students as β€œconsumers” i.e. this "It's very simple, in English law if you paid for a five-star holiday and received a one-star holiday, you are entitled to compensation," Goldwater said … but …

Gorgeous guitar. What is it? My bro-in-law just bought an Epiphone 355 and he is deeply in love with it.

Paul Verhoeven’s Benedetta would be a good one for him too.

I’ve done it. It’s easier that you might think. Getting off gmail is the hardest but I found there are straightforward alternatives to almost everything else.
