About to start Brawler, by Lauren Groff. Hope it lives up to my wildly high expectations.

Picked up Lonely Mouth, by Jacqueline Marley, and it has a banger of an opening chapter

Started Flesh, living up to the hype so far. Iβve heard complaints about the lack of interiority, but Iβm enjoying the narrative distance. Reminds me of 19th century novels.

Good things Come and Go, by Josie Shapiro is a darker turn from her bestselling debut, but Iβm here for it

CR: Out of the Blue: Essays on Artists from Aotearoa New Zealand 1985-2021, Christina Barton
Love me some art history, even if the govt. doesnβt.

Finished Sight Lines: Women and Art in Aotearoa, by Kirsty Baker. Has sat on my bedside table while I dip into essays over the last few months. Gorgeously produced and full of new artists to discover.

Okay, Iβm finished and it was not what I was expecting. Too surreal for my taste, and too few of the mysteries hinted at in the chapters were resolved. I was hoping for a satisfying puzzle, more like Pale Fire. Liked but didnβt love this book.
Love a fiction takedown!
Only a few chapters in, reads more like a short story collection so far, with the through line of the artist. Some chapters are stronger than others. Interested to see how it comes together.
Gorgeous, and Iβm a big Olivia Laing fan, so this is definitely on the tbr
Loving all your kiwi authors, have read all of them except the Ingrid Horrocks!
Current read, the Goldsmith Prize winning novel We Live Here Now, by C. D. Rose, anyone read?

Continuing my E. M. Delafield jag with Thank Heaven Fasting. So great.

Ah love the bumbling professor
Just bought a book Iβm excited to read: Out of the Blue - essays on artists from Aotearoa New Zealand 1985-20121, by Christina Barton. Yay for art history
Yes, yay for longhand writers.
When I was a kid the gothic vibes spooked me, but itβs only as Iβve gotten older that Iβve realised the true horror of this book β after finally breaking free and making an independent life for herself, Jane gives up everything to marry Mr Rochester. Scariest book ever!
Happy Halloween #booksky. Wanna know what my spookiest read is?
Jane Eyre.
Hear me outβ¦
Yep. 70!
Deep in copyedits for my novel. Who wants to guess how many times Iβve used the word βhairβ? Anyone?

Oh dear, is this what I have to look forward to, ha!
Hand holding up the new issue of landfall journal, with a painting of a tui on the front cover
Check out the 250th issue of Landfall, packed full of essays, poetry, fiction and reviews. And a new story by me.
Currently obsessed with Diary of A Provincial Lady, by E M Delafield. Deadpan English humour. Loved it
Just started I Capture the Castle, by Dodie Smith and already Iβm hooked. Love the self deprecating, funny voice. Any Dodie Smith fans out there?

I liked Stoner!
Excited to share my new story in takahΔ and read the other contributions. Weekend reading sorted!

Great novel. I particularly enjoyed the mini ice age.
Turns out No Good, by Sophie van Waardenberg, was very good indeed, revealing an attention to craft lacking from many contemporary poems.

Excited to share my new story with you all, in the new issue of takahΔ, coming soon!
Definitely recommend!
